Giralt confident of Barca coup:

The Barca fan at the head of a group trying to overthrow club president Joan Laporta claims the campaign could force him to resign in June.

Quote:

"Something needs to be changed very high up in our club," Giralt told PA Sport's Football Insider. "There is something very wrong with this president. It is not just sporting reasons. The last two years have been terrible.

"The president of this club needs to be a gentleman."

"The club is in a very, very bad situation," he said. "They (the board) promised a lot, but have not done it. The club is broken, the players are in despair. Ronaldinho is an example.

"Laporta did exactly the opposite of what he promised. Incredible. If you read the newspapers of five or six years ago and see the things he has done, it is like white and black."

So if the whole top management changes, will there also be drastic changes in the players??? Could someone tell me how Barca is run as a club. I know that its owned by a group of Fans, but othere than that I dunno much about its operational structure...

Well there are 2 presidents Laporta and another I think. I remember reading that one of them likes Eto'o and the other doesn't, same with Ronaldinho. It's run by 2 men who obviously don't agree with each other a lot.

Laporta should resign, he slapped a fan for crying out loud...

Barça don't have an owner, the owners of the club are all the members (about 160,000), we don't buy the club but are considered the owners. There are elections that are usually every 4 years (if the president doesn't resign before) and the members vote the president and the board of directors, that are members of the club too. You don't need to be millionaire to be the president or a member of the board of directors but to have some money (if you want I can explain you why they need to have some money but well now I'm only explaining the main things). If now Laporta had to resign then there would be elections in some weeks to choose the new president, but if Laporta had signed and sold some players before he had to resign then the new president wouldn't change a lot of things. Barça fans like to be a club like this because we don't want that a millionaire that is only interested in the money buys the club and makes what he wants with the club.

There are 3 clubs more that don't have an owner and run similar to Barça that are Real Madrid, Atheltic de Bilbao and Osasuna.

There is only one president, Laporta, that is who signed Eto'o and there was a vice-president that resigned 2 years ago because he and the president hated each other that was who signed Ronaldinho. And a lot of people say that this vice-president, called Sandro Rossell, will be a candidate in the next elections to be the president of the club.

Thanks for the info mate. Very much appreciated. I know why money is needed to win an election mate... Wink

I think this is a good system but as with everything, it has its own disadvantages I think. So now that ex-vice president is going to be the new president???

Only if the members vote him (well in case he becomes a candidate, and in case Laporta resigns/calls elections, something that is not likely to happen in my opinion).

The next elections should be in 2 years if the president Laporta continues till the end of his 4 years. Then every member that wants will be able to be a candidate and all the informations say that this ex-vice-president will be one of the candidates. Then members will vote to choose the new president.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is set to face his most testing moment in five years in charge after the Catalans announced a referendum which will take place on July 6...

Quote:

The club's members must now vote to decide whether to stick with Laporta or opt for a change in direction. For Laporta to be ousted from the post he took up in 2003, he must receive less than a third of the vote from a minimum of 10 per cent of the club's members.

That scenario would see Laporta forced to stand down two years before the end of his mandate, prompting presidential elections to be called later in the summer.

Barcelona vice-president Alfons Godall stated that the process will reinforce the democratic ethos that is in place at the club.

"The board of directors values the process, and how it has gone, positively," he told a press conference.

"It is an important act that we want to develop according to the guidelines and that at the end will have reinforced the democratic institution that is in place."

Barça signed Ronaldino thanks to the ex-vicepresident Rossell, because he has good contacts with Brazil and Nike.
