Germans still want Riordan |
|
Kaiserslautern are planning a second attempt to sign Hibernian striker Derek Riordan.
The Scotland international's contract expires in October and he will shortly be allowed to talk to interested clubs. Rangers had been hoping to keep the forward in The SPL, although the change of manager at Ibrox could end the interest. Crystal Palace and Leeds United have been linked with trying to take Riordan south of the border, while Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow are also suitors. In January, Kaiserslautern confirmed their intent to sign the 23-year-old after Hibs accepted an offer from the Bundesliga club. Riordan rejected the move on the grounds that he did not have time to consider the switch, but Kaiserslautern have not been deterred. Providing the club retain their top-flight status, then Kaiserslautern are aiming to speak to Riordan again at the end of the season. "We have continued to monitor the progress of Riordan," said FCK coach Wolfgang Wolf. "Assuming we avoid relegation, we would certainly try again to persuade him to come to the club." Kaiserslautern are currently third from bottom in the table and are three points adrift of Wolfsburg and Mainz. |

He is a quality player, with plenty of ability with the ball at his feet. I think he needs his future to be decided sooner rather than later though so he can focus on his career. |
