Canadian Coach Retires Canada's head coach , Even Pellerud , has announced his retirement from international football and will end a nine year reign in December. Between now and then , there is the dream of Olympic gold in Beijing to chase something that has eluded Pellerud to date , also Canada , whose qualification for the finals from August 6th - 23rd is a first. Pellerud has stacked up 129 internationals in charge of Canada. Highlights include leading them to a fourth place finish at the 2003 World Cup , twice ending runners up at the CONCACAF Gold Cup , as well as playing a part in the silver medal winning side at the inaugural U20 world Championship. Honours won as Norway's head coach include World Cup gold and silver , Olympic bronze , plus winning the European Championship , as well as second and third place finishes. In addition to team awards , there has been recognition over the years of his individual contribution , winning coach of the year trophies in both Canada and Norway. Pellerud also ranks as the most experienced coach at Women's World Cup Finals , having totalled 21 games. In never knew he coached Norway's international team. |
