Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has admitted he would like to see Alan Shearer succeed Graeme Souness as manager of the Magpies.
Former England skipper Shearer has put off retirement to play for one more season at St James' Park.
He will also take up a coaching role at the club as he is groomed to one day take over from Souness.
"Graeme has said he wants Alan to take over when he leaves and, as far as I know, it's what our fans want. I've not said it before - but I am saying it right now," said Shepherd.
"And, remember, I'm no different from the fans because I'm a supporter as well and it's what I want.
"In an ideal world, I would always want a Geordie to be manager of this football club.
"And I have always seen Alan Shearer as playing some part of this football club when he finishes playing," quotes The Sun.
I know the supporters will feel at ease as he has the club at heart - I am aware that he is doing all the right coaching badges to enable himt o manage in Europe!
He will be a pull for big players to add to the size of the club!
If he has the right team around him from the start i can see him being a success like Stuart Pearce is proving to be at Man City - As long as he isnt thrown in at the deep end and has had the experience behind the scenes - Knowing thow the club runs already it could be the tonic the club needs in the long term.
Maybe Alan Shearer will be the man to bring silverware to
Newcastle as manager and the holy grail will be acheived!!
