The 38-year-old completed the switch before the Germany national team jetted out to Switzerland this afternoon.

'Jens was our top candidate from the very beginning for the goalkeeper position,' commented Stuttgart coach Armin Veh on the club's website.

'His qualities are undeniable and the whole team will benefit from his experience.'

Stuttgart were alerted to Lehmann's availability when the former Arsenal stopper opted not to extend his contract with the Gunners and became a free agent this summer.

With Raphael Schafer failing to give the defence enough security in his first season since joining from Nurnberg, Stuttgart began the search for a new number one in May.

Lehmann can now expect to play at least one more season in the Bundesliga after spells with Schalke and Borussia Dortmund before moving to England five years ago.

Nigeria striker Manasseh Ishiaku has joined newly promoted Bundesliga side FC Cologne on a four-year contract.

The 25-year-old, who had been linked to a host of European clubs including Turkish giants Galatasaray, moves from relegated club Duisburg.

Rafael Van Der Vaart looks like hes off to Spain, to either Real or Atletico Madrid - Real have offered �5m more so he'll probably end up there

Lucas Podolski could be on his way back to his former club Cologne - surprised to hear this, he could easily have got a move to someone like Spurs I would have thought

Ivica Olic is staying at Hamburg - I liked the look of him at Euro 08, he was always busy and worked hard and seemed to have decent technique

Klinsmann says he wont be making any more signings this Summer after signing Tim Borowski & Hans-Jorg Butt

Tunisian international striker Mohamed Chermiti has joined Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin on a four-year deal.

Hamburg have signed Croatia international striker Mladen Petric from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund

Russia international striker Ivan Saenko has left relegated Nurnberg to join Spartak Moscow.

Veteran Czech midfielder Tomas Galasek has left Nuremberg and returned to Banik Ostrava.
