Smith to leave Dundee for Valur |
|
Dundee captain Barry Smith will leave the First Division club after Saturday's game against Queen of the South and join Icelandic club Valur.
Smith, who is presently caretaker boss along with Bobby Mann, has been a regular in the Dens Park side since he arrives from Celtic in 1995. "I am sad to leave, but it was too good an opportunity to pass up at this stage of my career," Smith told The Scotsman. "If I had I not agreed to accept, I might have regretted it in the future." The 32-year-old has been caretaker for just one match along with his fellow defender after the sacking of Alan Kernaghan. It followed a disappointing season in which Dundee, relegated last season, have finished in a disappointing mid-table position. The match at Palmerston Park will be his 431st appearance for Dundee. |
