My favourite part was when Pleat said something along the lines of "Portugal really do have an array of talent in many position"... That would be a football team David!

Demirel and Kazim-Richards did well for Turkey, but they faultered in the final third.
Portugal are the Brazil of Europe, but with a good defence. Its hard to see a weakness.

Straight off they lunged in on Ronaldo, but with all that diving I guess thats Turkey for you!
Formation is suited to the type of players with flexibility the key...Ron was on the left, right, centre...all over. They brought quality players from the bench, but I was impressed with the defence, even if you take away the goal fom Pepe.
Solid at the back, creative and comfortable in midfield and plenty of chances to score.

Enjoyable to watch and hopefully they get a better test soon. They do have the look of champions.

It's never good to peak early though.

Sure they can play better.

I concur with the attacks on the commentary. They know nothing about foreign footballers it's infuriating.

Well if they have the look of champions you'd expect they're playing to near their best. Wink

Like what happened to Argentine in the World Cup. They were exceptional in the group stages - tournament favourites at that point - but went out to Germany in i think the quarters.

I hope Germany halts them. They'll be up there though, semi-finalists if each group goes to plan.

Portugal were really good though. Beautiful second goal. Bosingwa looks a quality player for sure.

Why was Petit playing instead of Veloso? Didn't Portugal drop him for Costinha so many times? I was very impressed with Moutinho, Deco, Simao, Pepe and Gomez but disappointed that Veloso and Quaresma didn't get playing time. Ronaldo looked rattled by the attention he was getting (I was rattled by the attention the commentry was giving him) and only really came into his own when his expression was freed up and he was allowed to drift inside and out in the way he wanted. We'll see how they use him in the next game.

Some of Deco's passing was too casual though. Ronaldo may have been rattled at first, but he did well. Contributing positively on a number of occasions.

I've just watched the highlights, and i didn't think much of the BBC's coverage of the Portugal game, or their commentary and punditry. They failed to show the Nihat dive from the best angled, which was the only one that revealed it was a dive. Also, was it just me, or did they fail to show Ronaldo's stunning 50 yards pass to Simao, who then took on the defender and went to cross? That ws a superb pass, but i don't remember seeing it on the highlights.

Kazim was the only player who i felt stood out in the game. The turkish goalkeeper also did well.

The game was much more entertaining than the swiss game thats for sure.

Portugal play a bizzare system with playing their wingers so far wide yet having a small isolated forward like Gomes, but that's how they've done it ever since I've watched football and they always do well.

Not to take anything from Gomes but hey should start with the system they used in the second half with Ronaldo as the spearhead and the wingers and the two CMs playing off him. He has the height, the strength, the pace and the predatory instincts to lead the line and with a free role he could drop off and pull wide if need be.

Did you see in the after-match punditry? They were saying how Ronaldo didn't start well, 'cause the Turks weren't giving him any space or anything, and then they showed a few clips - one being near the end of the match, in the second-half (he was running right-to-left) and a few others like it. Then they said but as the game went on he got into his stride or whatever, and showed a clip from around the first 15-20 minutes where he had a run and shot wide.

Laughing Bloody disaster of a punditry team.

Hey mate, I'm confused a bit. I thought that was a Deco pass and not Ronaldo's??? Could you guys please clear it for me as I couldn't find any clip or report about that...

Whats up wih the Portugese left side?
Paulo Ferreira is a quality defender, but mainly a right back...yet he was playing as a left-back!
Did well, depsite being caught when cutting in onto his right.

I thought it was Deco too. Thats if i'm thinking of the right one. It was passed from deep and i don't remember Ronaldo being very deep.
