Hey footballers
20 years ago i was playing in under 16 team , and i had a qustion in my mind that
i never asked my coach or anyone .
now .. after i stopped watching football 7 years ago, there are many questions , but
first let me ask that one and get it out of my chest .
. Law 11 - Offside : A player is in an offside position if he is nearer to his opponents’ goal
line than second last opponent at the VERY same moment the ball passed to him .
is there any refree or assistant or anyone can see 2 spots at the same moment ?
in a fraction of a second the player or opponent can be nearer . somtimes the diffrence is
only millimeters . they cannot tell who's nearer even if they concentrate on both players ,
forget about watching - THE MOMENT- the ball passed .
phewww ... i feel better now Smile

Of course it's difficult in some situations, but it's hardly 'corrupt'. But all refereeing is about making judgements based on what you can see and unless you want endless video refereeing or having the players, ball and pitch all wired up to an electronic gizmo that reads it all automatically I don't see what can be done about it. It's a good rule in principle, it's just some of the tweaking with it that we saw a while back which was controversial.

To answer the question :

http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v404/n6773/full/404033a0.html :

In conclusion, errors made by ARs in judging offside may often be the result of the relative optical projections of the players on the AR's retina. This means that, regardless of the quality of the AR, judgement errors are inevitable owing to the apparent limitations of our perceptual system. In our results, 9.3% of the AR's calls of offside were FEs. Given the high stakes in modern football, this incidence of (inevitable) errors suggests that alternative ways of judging offside should be developed, such as off-line analysis of video images taken from an adequate observation point.

but that is just your opinion , not everyone will agree with you . So who is right and who is wrong , it was all much clearer before the last changes to the offside rule ...now you have all this `was the player active` or `interfering with play` crap to think about .

Madness....
