Great 1st half. Great to watch. I wouldn't say Spain dominated the match just because the scoreline is 2-0. Russia did have their chances and were dangerous at times and they hit the post once even. But Spain are too good and have a better quality while moving forward. Both Torres and Villa were terrorizing the Russian defense and more than once they caught the defenders out and skipped past them. Silva and Xavi are quiet IMO while Iniesta is playing well. Senna and Puyol are also having a good game too breaking up the Russian play at times and making good tackles...

Lets hope the 2nd half is the same and Villa get a hatrick. Also I want to see Fabregas play instead of Xavi there...

Oh BTW please Monsieur Wenger, please buy David Villa for Arsenal. He'll be excellent for us and he fits with our playing system... Smile

Was a good attacking half. Spain don't look the best at the back but they have just about got this in the bag. Cool

Puyol isn't the defender he was a couple of years ago and Marchena just isn't a national team quality.

F***!
I once wrote that the Dutch are the team with the largest difference between their attack and their defence. Now I see that I was wrong. We are no doubt Number One as we do not have any defence at all. Spain, by the way, are no too much better. Zhirkov v. Ramos - 50:50 at least.

New record for Spain if the score stays this way, they've never won by more than 1 goal in a Euro competition, this could be their first

Is offside but what the heck, referees aren't exactly great these days.

Well done Spain!! Nice attacking football, Villa was lethal and Russia really didn't have much on the whole....

I knew Spain would win but I didn't expect it to be by such a margin!! Shocked

Best performance of the tournament so far from Villa who will probably go on to get the golden boot. This is one very, very, very efficient striker!

Oh and well chuffed that Fab4 got his first international goal. Long may it continue Very Happy

I don't think the same, it was the Russians who attacked.

Solid performance from Spain and a fully deserved victory against a lackluster Russian side. Villa was clinical whilst Torres continually exploited Russia's weak defence, making clever runs in between the centre half and right back causing them trouble all night until he went off. They were well balanced in the Midfield with Senna protecting the back four and keeping his passing simple whilst the attacking players constantly switched in and out, roaming and passing quickly, Silva, Iniesta and Xavi providing good service for the front two. Despite their prowess in the final third i would say however that they looked a little shaky at the back at times, Anyukov and Zhirkov getting change out of those full backs on a number of occassions yet the lack of movement and mobility from lone striker Pavlyuchenko meant their efforts proved ultimately fruitless. Hiddink picked the wrong players at the back and on the flanks in my opinion, i think Bystrov and Torbinksy should start, i couldn't believe Bystrov was taken off so early after coming on.

I don't think he will. Spain is going to face the 1st or 2nd of group C in the quarterfinal and I feel they're going to get knocked out.

No doubt, the championship is over for Kolodin and, perhaps, Shirokov (as for the latter, Gus might transfer him to the midfield, that is, to his regular position).
Arsh and Po might have exerted stronger pressure on Spanish defence (though it was strong enough for the most part of 90 minutes) but they'd have been hardly able to stop a permanent orgy at the back.
Hope Spain would be equally impressive against Sweden and Greece so as to treat the three teams equally. Under certain circumstances those who meet Spain last would be in a better position.

Well, I got my wishes. Villa got a hatrick and Fabregas played and he even got a goal(His first international goal I think). Very Happy
Was it his pass from which Villa got his 3rd goal???

Spain played extremely well and attacked with efficiency. Lets hope they play this well in the coming matches and reach the Finals...

I'm so happy for Spain and Fabregas now... Come you guys keep it up and play well the next time around too.Very Happy But they have to improve their defense if they want to go a long way...
