The earlier Group C kick off tomorrow in Zurich, sees a vital encounter for the Italians as they look to banish the memories of their Dutch drubbing. Romania look to continue to revel in their status as underdog after their draw with France which in hindsight they could have actually gone on to have won had they committed more men forward, surely they cannot spring a surprise and beat the World Champions here?

Quote:
Italy boss Roberto Donadoni will shake up his team up by making at least three changes from the side which suffered an opening 3-0 loss to the Netherlands.

Striker Alessandro Del Piero and defender Giorgio Chiellini will start, meaning Antonio Di Natale and Marco Materazzi are likely to be dropped.

Daniele de Rossi and left-back Fabio Grosso are also pushing for a place.

Romania striker Ciprian Marica has a head injury but could replace Daniel Niculae up front if he is passed fit.

Italy will be eliminated if they lose to Romania following the Dutch defeat and, though they have never lost twice in one European Championship, Donadoni said the time was right to take a gamble.

"I think it's fairly logical to make some changes," he said. "We have other alternatives.

"A little fear isn't a bad thing. It's healthy.

"The psychological aspect is important - we've got to remain clear-headed. We can't go out there thinking that if we don't score in the second, third or fourth minute it's all over.

"We've got to control the game properly."

Del Piero, who will play as a second striker off target man Luca Toni, returns to the side as captain.

"I always feel responsible, even when I don't play," he said. "There will be even more pressure [on Friday], when I'll have the armband.

"But none of this scares me."

I think Italy wasnt that bad in the first match of the group. They had clear opportunities but they just couldnt score. Romania is a good team but their offensive performance cant match Holland's. I think Italy -especially Del Piero and Pirlo- will dominate the game and win like 2-0 or 3-1

I personally can see a convincing win here for the Italians also. Romania are a fairly average side in all honesty, and whilst they do defend fairly well with Radio and Goian (sp) at the back i think Italy will come out with a shaken up lineup determined to reinforce their position and serious contenders. Toni will have a partner up front preventing him from becoming isolated whilst Grosso may be included to give more width and Chilleni in for more defensive solidity.

Italy 3-0 Romania.

I will be really surprised if Italy don't pick up all three points in this game later today...

An important question will be can the Italians break down Romania's defence and if
they do manage to get through will they be able to put away any of the chances they create?

Its a must win game for the world cup winners as a draw will be no good to them at all
especially as France will be the opponents in their last game they play in this group........

I'm going for Italy 3 v 1 Romania with Luca Toni scoring a couple of goals.......

I think that now, with the right pressure on, they'll do a good match

I am sure Romania will try to hold for a goalless draw, so 1-0 Italy.

This is the latest game for Italy. Romanian team is very good. Italy has very good individual players but, unfortunately, not team players.

I hope Italy win. They can do it certainly, based on the first game - and i expect a comfortable win against a Romania side that unimpressed me. France were dour and that was responsible for the draw, rather than Romania being very good.

I think Italy need to shake their side up a little, something like this:

-------------------------------Toni-------------------------------
-------Di Natale-------------------------------Del Piero--------

----------------------------De Rossi-----------------------------
------------------Pirlo-----------------Gattuso-----------------

-----Grosso--------Chiellini-----Materazzi------Zambrotta---

-----------------------------Buffon------------------------------

Quite surprised Chiellini didn't come in for Cannavaro to be honest. Di Natale impressed me but so did Del Piero coming off the bench, so perhaps Camoranesi will miss out. He does offer you width though. They need someone in midfield, and of the three Ambrosini is the weak link really, and De Rossi should be given a chance. I like the guy, good player. They need more going forward in that area.

Romania is one of the countries i predicted to be a dark horse in this cup, just like Greece 4 years ago. I think good pressing is going to be enough for Romania to win this match. Especially since Italy is not good as a team.

I hope that Cassano plays ahead of Cameronessi who might as well have not showed up for the first game.
