We might be in for a penatly-shootout if France loses to Holland, Romania loses to Holland, France & Italy draw

It would take a heavy defeat of Romania to bring it to penalties.

If Italy and France draw, Romania need to lose by 3 or more goals to have an inferior goal difference, so if they can avoid that they'd go through despite losing. Italy and France would be deleted.

Even then, if Romania lost 3-0 and Italy-France was 0-0 both would have identical goal differences and goals for records - if Romania lost 4-1, 5-2, 6-3 etc. and Italy-France was 0-0 (or any draw result whereby Romania have scored more goals than both of htem) they would go through.

Bit complicated, but Romania are in a strong position. It's in their hands.

Don't act like you do not have a long track record of corruption in the Italian game.

Yes they are..

Holland will defeat France
Holland will defeat Romania
Italy will defeat France

Holland 9
Italy 4
Romania 2
France 1

Romania can defeat Holland if Holland defeat France because Holland would already be the winners of the group and could play with their worst players.

exactly

Was Toni not on the floor. He never looked for any penaltys?

Well, another result that no-one really expected. Most of the prediction in this thread were 2-0's ans 3-0's in favour of Italy. But yet again Romania spoil the party and take a point against both world cup finalists. It could have easily been much worse for Italy as well, were it not for a great penalty save from Buffon to deny Mutu.

Many after the France match, people were saying that France just played poorly, and payed no notice to how Romania played. But they have just proved that they did play well in the first game, and also in this game as well. Romania have a strong defensive back-line. And when on the attack they do have players such as Mutu who can cause a threat to the opposition.

So far they have done well to take to points, and are currently standing 2nd in their group. It leaves things very interesting for the last set of group C matches.

Good game in my opinion ,I'm getting to like Cameranesi wicked little player that.
What a save by Buffon , straight at the goalie pretty much ,but the save was fantastic.
Entertaining match all in all ,pleasure to watch.By the way ,that was not a penalty .

I'm telling you, the referees are seriously [/beep] [/beep!!] when Italy's playing. I'm beginning to hate Norwegians because of the referee who called the shots for this game.

Romania, Romania, Romania. Tut, tut, tut.

They could have beaten France and Italy by now if they had of taken a few more risks going forward. They worked really hard in both games and nullified the opposition for the best parts.

Italy were lucky really. Buffon saved them. They were decent in attack, but balanced it by being quite dodgy at the back. I'm not sure about the penalty and if it should have been given, but technically it was a foul. It's just that it's a habit and it's harsh to give out penalties for incidents like that which happen all the time, almost instinctively by players who have developed these dirty techniques in the game as they often are ignored.

Another interesting game though.

Apparently Italy decided to stop paying referees for favors. Razz

Lots of crazy stuff in this game. Both teams had quite a few chances on goal but just couldn't finish. I think Italy got hard done on the first Toni 'goal' as it was called offsides. He was definitely played onside, that could have change a lot of things in the match.

Mutu's goal was brilliant, but then seconds later they lose concentration in the back and give up a goal to level it.

Romania were then gifted the game with the PK at the end, but Mutu couldn't convert. Buffon came up huge with the save.

I don't think Italy can beat France. Seeing the two playing today for the second time, I think the speed of France up front will cause Italy problems in the back. Italy are done I feel.

Well France's pace didn't stop them winning the world cup final, or one of the qualifying matches for this competition. And Materazzi and Cannavaro aren't exactly fast now are they.

Italy's height will beat France. Toni will dominate in the air.

Italy did well to come straight back after conceeding and a great penalty save from Buffon. That could keep them in it still.
At least Romania don't have to rely on Mutu. Goals from all over the pitch in prospect.

Well Italy played better today against Romania than they did in their first game but
they still keep on missing chances and had enough in this game to have thrashed their opponents.

A little credit here should go to Romania for their performance as they did well and at times played
some neat passing football which shows there no mugs and why should they let Italy beat them anyway?

I think some people on here should grow up...were all adults on here and not still at school or are we?!!

Labont was outstanding though. Without a good performance from him in goal, Italy would've won.

A very interesting match it was that reveal the potential of Romania! Of course the team is not perfect in all compartment of the game but is enough compact and good to be dangerous, I feel for them for missing so much opportunities that reveal a serious problem in the italian defense!

What a pity Mutu missed his penalty kick Sad

Italy Vs Romania
