2008 OFC Nations Cup doubles as 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification for the OFC zone. The winner of the 2008 OFC Nations Cup will compete for a place in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in a playoff against the fifth placed nation from the AFC qualification zone.

Australia have played off against Israel in 3 different locations in the world within a week in the past, Brazil, Iran, Uruguay (three times, 3rd time we made it Now we're AFC and have a much clearer route to the final. That is a bit harsh on NZ still having to play a play-off, despite winning the group, and the OFC Nations cup.
Aren't FIFA being a bit picky though. surely they could combine these counties will another nation. 4 countries in their own separate qualifying group seems pointless for me. |

Oceania is made up of numerous nations. Thats just the 'final stage' before the play-off.
Other countries either decide not to attempt qualifying or they get knocked out early on. |
