I would support Wales but they're never in anything. I'm supporting Germany in Euros because I win £25 if they win and I do have some German ancestry. I did want France in the sweepstake draw just because I like the country, glad I didn't pick that one now.

I was interested by a comment that Ben made in a thread in Euro 2008 section referring to the opinion that when supporting a team in international football you have no real choice as you do in supporting a club team, and that you are really bound to support the country where you are from. It is an opinion that personally i agree with but i was just wondering what you all thought about this topic? Is it ok to pick a country team to support or should you follow your own country?

This may not surprise a lot of people on this site ,but i root for other national teams all the time.
I'm not going to put my support behind a team of player's who i can't stand the guts of ,that would be terrible. I have to remain honest to my feelings. The Current English crop are more interested in money than success ,unlike the team of the 60's.That team was pure desire.I think the players today are not pure of thought when it comes to winning for their country that's why they can't even qualify for the Euro's. That's why other countries are way ahead of Britain in terms of development ,because the youth are raised on hype and sensationalism. They want a the quickest way to the money and success because everything today is instant.

I strongly believe that you should support your native country.
I am still a strong supporter of Wales having lived in England for quite some years.
But also it is a lot of fun to support a foreign country, taking Euro 2008 for example, as Wales were not attending i have supported Russia since the start of the tournament and i have throughly enjoyed watching them through the group stages and the quarter final so far.
