US Defeat AUS Challenging tow-peat

[June 15, 2008] US Women National Team (1st FIFA ranking) won against ¡®Dark horse¡¯, Australia (12th FIFA ranking) and they stepped to the tow-peat.
The first match of group B of 2008 Peace Queen Cup Suwon was held in Suwon World Cup Stadium, in the afternoon, today. Natasha Kai, US WNT scored the first run but US had to give up the equalizer from Australia in the second half. In 32 minutes of the second half, however, ¡®Goal getter¡¯, Abigail Wambach netted her 96th goal in the A match and US won against Australia.

On April 27th and May 3rd, two teams had grueling tryout match and penetrated many football fans. Though Australia loses in both two matches, Australia was considered as a powerful team that could defeat US, thanks to the previous two matches. Many expected stirring performance of the teams.
During the match intense body check was done by players, which already was predicted. Natasha Kai of US WNT bled a little by injury and Dianne Alagich got a yellow card right after 8 minutes from the beginning.
US started to break the balance of the seesaw. Natasha Kai of US WNT, who had got the minor injury, scored goal with patient in the 1 on 1 chance with the goalkeeper.
After Australia reconsolidated its line of battle, they started to lead the match pressing US. Finally, in 12th minute of the second half, a midfielder, Heather Garriock broke through breaking down the offside trap of US and created an equalizer.

After that, US and Australia kept tight match. ¡®Special goal getter¡¯, Abigail Wambach(US) collected a headed goal in 32nd minute of the second half and kept it well till the end of the match and led US win.
¡°We had hard time in the first half of the match but we could play as we wanted in the second half¡± Pia Sundhage, head coach of US Women National Team said. ¡°I will prepare different tactics for the match against Brazil,¡± he commented. ¡°We had pretty hard game with Australia because of their improved performance of capacity,¡± Abigail Wambach, who scored the decider, said. ¡°I won¡¯t care about the Golden Shoe but I will concentrate on the Olympic Game.¡±
On the other hand, Thomas Sermanni, head coach of Australia said ¡°It was nice match but we conceded goal too easily¡±
