Austria Vs Germany |
|
The Germans will need a win this evening if they are to qualify for the quater finals
After their disappointing display against Croatia in there last game a good performance is a must. Will Austria be able to match them on the pitch or will there opponents have to much quality for them? Is there a possibility they might just let their former rulers win and under hand tactics will be at play? I'm sure something similar happened once in one of the world cups along time ago involving the old East Germany! |

we've all be watching football long enough to know now that in football the most unexpected of things can happen, and with austria at home they just may be able to pull the rabbit out of the hat and stun the world of football. We just have to go back to 2004 and see the greeks lift euro 2004, senegal reaching the quartel finals in their debut world cup in 2002 and south korea with home advantage make the last 4. So you just never know.
On paper yes germany have the big names but its not about that anymore. |

It's funny I automatically think of Anschluss a ?
I remember 1982 as well. More seriously Austria will give a good game to Germany but I would like to see germany go through to play Portugal |

I'm undecided tonight regarding which game to watch, probably this one though as its bound to be a tad fiery. I fully expect the Germans to banish memories of that Croatia defeat and to assert themselves over their smaller cousins however, with Austria perhaps having the chances but again not being able to finish as we saw so evidently in the game with Poland.
Germany to book their place in the Quarters against Portugal 2-0. |

I fancy Germany to win it. Maybe 2-0 and Podolski on the scoresheet again...

There is no way Germany can lose against Austria with a team like theirs.. Besides who said Poland is going to defeat CROATIA

I will be watching the German game with great interest.
I think Lowe knew they would qualify and perhaps in the last game they made a few sacrifices - they never seemed to shift into gear or expel much energy. I expect a big win for the Germans tonight to set them on their way in the 1/4 final. |

I also think there wont be any problems for the Germans tonight. Hope Austria scores first and we can watch an exciting game

Germany and Austria's coaches have both been sent off by the ref!!
Half time now...O-0 |

The German centre-backs have been chronic defensively. How many times they've been beaten by a pretty direct, simple long ball i don't know. They're just asleep all the time; they lapse, run forward when the balls played up and surprise surprise the striker is chasing a loose ball in behind the back four. Atrocious.
If Austria had any substance to their attack they'd have punished Germany. And should have had a penalty. |

A fairly even first half, with Austria perhaps having better of the opening exchanges. The Austrians pursuing with their wide play and trying to get Harnik into good positions, a couple of chances for them that they could of put away in that first half, a poor touch costing Hoffler a chance to be one on one with Lehmann. The Germans have had a lot of possession but again cannot really get that final ball correct, Mario Gomez adding to his poor tournament by missing an absolute sitter early on and then not being committed enough to try and head it in afterwards.
Both Hickersberger and Low sent to the stands, perhaps a little harshly. Comical mind you, neither really knew what was happening! |

Me thinks 1-0 to Germany. With Podolski (sp?) scoring!!

Was that when both teams needed a point to go through the group stage, so they passed the ball about between themselves for 90 mins drawing 0-0? Criminal. |
