I agree...that's a good definition of being loyal to your team. Some fans, like myself, take it much further than that and I'm not saying the way I feel about supporting my club is either right or wrong, I have only raised the issue to contrast, debate, highlight the wide range of difference that exists in football with regard to supporting various teams. I was hoping that Sticky-T would respond to this thread because I find his position on supporting two world class teams the most intriguing of all fans on here. I'm not trying to criticize him for adopting that stance, I would just like to try an better understand why he is in that position and how he manages any inevitible conflicts that are bound to arise. |

well i consider myself to be one of the more unbiased Arsenal fans here , i`m sure most of you know that J-Axe has been criticised here many times for his devotion to Arsene Wenger ...sometimes to the point of almost god-like worship of the man .
The matches over the last season in which Arsenal have been involved in various incidents have all resulted in massive debate and plenty of arguments ......many arguing that the experts are wrong about an offside goal or tackle or sending off ....they say their opinion is just as valid as the experts . When i see a penalty incident i honestly judge it as i see it ......i do not give advantage to Arsenal just because i am a gooner .....i will not give a 3 paragraph report on the incident or try to explain the circumstances leading up to the incident . I will just say yes or no ...it was or wasnt a penalty ...keep it short and simple . It is when some of us keep on about an incident despite the fact 99 % of us agree the player was guilty of diving or whatever ...they defend them no matter what ....that is what annoys us . That is not what a true fan is all about ....in my opinion anyway . |

What have I got to do with your bias or loyalty?
God-like worship? Stop being a fool for once. |

Fantastic topic, and one that we should all have an opinion on.
I will defend Manchester United if and when I feel they deserve defending, or if I feel they are coming under undeserved criticism from other members on the forum. There are times where I go against the grain by agreeing with certian criticism aimed at the club, however this is only if I feel it is deserved. For example, Sir Alex Ferguson complaining about Real Madrid poaching Ronaldo, when he is guilty of the very same thing year in year out. I can understand why some United fans would want to support Sir Alex through thick and thin, however this whole incident just made him look a bit silly, and to be honest made me cringe a bit in the way he went about it all. He was being hypocritical...although I do understand why he came out and said it. It was a tactic to try and fend off Real Madrid. He was "playing the game" rather than speaking from his heart. Another example was the topic regarding Ronaldo being the best player in the world. This is something I really do not agree with, and I have mentioned this many times before now. It will be interesting to see how certain United fans change their minds about this if/when Ronaldo leaves us for Madrid. Overall however, I do feel that I defend United as much as possible, and to a degree all fans are bias in one way or another. It is extremely hard not to be biased when you feel so much for the club you support. |

From what I have seen of J-Axe posts he is one of the best writers and most sensible of people on here. I would sincerely doubt he sees Wenger as almost god-like. I defend Sir Alex Ferguson in exactly the same way......now he is a god Is there more than one of you conner - you're not schizophrenic are you my friend.....just joking, but you can't really speak for others...surely?? |

I have to be honest, I actually thought J-Axe was the most biased Arsenal fan I had ever come across when I first read his posts, but to be fair he is definately one of my favourite members here. If you read his posts, he puts extremely good arguments across aswell as backing up what he says. Breath of fresh air on the forum - without trying to sound to over the top...

As some of you mention I like to feel I have a sensible balance of the two, well a balance anyway.
I don't like my team being criticised, but can understand why on occasions and rightly so. I can be terribly biased, but that tends to be more tongue in cheek that being full-on blinkered or derranged as such. Thats what I tell myself anyway. |
