Hi folks,

Due to a major hardware failure on the server that houses parts of football.co.uk (listed below), we have had to disable logins on the forum for the time being while we move the forum to a more stable machine.

We're sorry for the inconvenience this causes and we are working absolutely flat out to get the forum working again.

Thanks for your patience and sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

without wishing to be the constant whingeing voice of the forum it really p*sses me off when things like this happen. no explanation or warning is ever given and these problems always occur frequently at certain times. how many times has it f*cked up in the last week or so now?

how can you just lose 4-5 days worth of posts? each and every thread thats left is old and has already been answered once, thus leaving them dead. because of this discussion will be dead because nobody will repeat themselves.

instead of f*cking around trying to make the place look pretty how about the geeks in charge think about letting us actually post and also try this radical new way of thinking - leaving the posts on the f*cking forum.

honestly it is driving me mad having a constant battle just to be able to use this place at times.

The recent problems were caused by 2 unexpected, major hardware failures within the same number of days (hard drive, then network) in the Football.co.uk servers. This is unfortunately something we have no control over. Hardware fails, especially under the heavy load that Football.co.uk receives. The forum server alone is at pretty much full pelt for about 12 hours a day.

We now have a contingency plan in the prototype stage to make sure something like this doesn't happen again, including a technique called "hot failover" (if one server goes down another immediately and seamlessly takes its place).

Regarding the loss of posts, we have had to move the forum's database several times. However the database is so big (about 2 DVD-ROMs worth) it takes approx 5 hours to move it from host to host. Any posts within those 5-hour windows will have been lost. again, we've taken this into consideration, and are looking at ways to avoid data loss like this in future.

Again I apologise for the downtime and loss of service over the last few days -- these measures should ensure that this doesn't happen again.

i know that Cmn will explain all the problems that occur ...blah blah blah .....and i appreciate what O Dogg is trying to create here and all that ....but , i agree Steely ....all we are after is a nice and stable forum ....since christmas the forum has gradually got worse and worse in terms of stability and ease of use .....we dont all have powerful pc`s and are able to use the latest browsers and whatever .

But it is all about money .....they aint doing all this just to let us talk about football you know .. Wink

ps.aplogies for having a go but its damn frustrating at the moment here .

I got reports that the site was slow as all hell on the backup servers so I was asked to move it back.

We have lost the Germany V Spain final thread in the Euro 2008 section again...

There was some good posts on there and its unfair on us all if it has gone forever..

I spent 1 hour writing all the stats and player ratings from the final yesterday all for nothing...

This forum will lose all the new members who joined recently and contributed on the Euro 08 section
if this is how this place is going to be run...If this sites servers are no good find some which bloody are....

Sorry for the rant but things have to be said sometimes and I'm not afraid to speak my mind......

If those dissapearing threads have gone for good, then I'll be mighty p*ssed off. I've actually started bothering to right some better quality posts, e.g. in the euro threads, and then they just get deleted? Wtf.
