Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has confirmed that Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is close to joining the club on a free transfer.

The 35-year-old former Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Leeds United striker has been a free agent since leaving Charlton Athletic at the end of last season and will undergo a medical before putting pen to paper on an initial one-year contract.

Swansea City's recent signing Mark Gower is convinced he has made the right decision after ending his five-year association with Southend United.

The 29-year-old midfielder has penned a two-year contract with the Swans after rejecting a new Roots Hall deal and had also been wanted by Blackpool and Nottingham Forest.
