Atletico Madrid boss Javier Aguirre has revealed that he is keen on bringing Juan Roman Riquelme to the club.

The Primera Liga giants were thought to have been close to agreeing a deal for the Argentina international last summer, only for that transfer to fall through.

However, it would appear that they are willing to make a second approach as Aguirre admits that he is an admirer of the talented playmaker.

Riquelme is currently back in his homeland with Boca Juniors but has a wealth of experience in regards to life in Spain having spent six years in the country between 2002 and 2008, taking in spells at Barcelona and Villarreal.

Atletico are keen to piece together a squad capable of challenging in the UEFA Champions League next season, and Aguirre has made it clear that Riquelme possesses the necessary attributes to help the club in their mission.

Riquelme im a huge fan of. I hope he decides to stay in spain.
What is everyone elses view of riquelme and do they want him to stay in spain?

I would love to see him go to Spain although I'm almost sure it won't happen, he seems to want to spend the rest of his career at Boca which is fair enough but I'm sad European football has been deprived of someone who culd have been one of the greats, he had a few great seasons at Villareal but for whatever reasons it just didn't work out for him or the club.

I'd love to see him play in Spain again. Or Europe, for any team, as long as he's back in the big time.

Interesting thoughts above.........

Here's what I found about his moving back to Argentina...........

Riquelme said before leaving Spain that he hoped playing for Boca again would help him keep his Argentina place until the 2010 World Cup.

'This move is the only chance I have to play at the next World Cup, which is the thing that motivates me most,' Riquelme was quoted as saying in Spanish media this week.

Riquelme would've been an even bigger star had he lived in the past as today's football is too fast for him. He's still a great player but he could've been a Ronaldinho in his own way with his great technique; only thing he lacks is pace.

Riquelme
