The owners of Real Mallorca claim the club are set to be bought out by English businessman Paul Davidson.

DRAC currently control the Spanish outfit, but announced on Tuesday that a pre-agreement has been reached with Davidson concerning a controlling stake in the side.

Despite his intentions to become the new head of the Barralets, Davidson would not take on the position of president, with DRAC owner, and current occupant of the role, Vicente Grande maintaining his post.

"DRAC has reached agreement in principle with the business and investment group presided over by Mr Paul Davidson for the aforementioned person to become the majority shareholder of Real Club Deportivo Mallorca SAD, with the firm desire to maintain and improve the position of the entity among the elite of Spanish and European football," read a statement on the club's official website.

"The pre-agreement, which must be formalised in the coming weeks and which is subject to a period of due diligence, assumes, among other clauses, that the current president, Vicente Grande, will remain on and preside over the club board for at least the next five years."

Promotion
It is believed that plumbing millionaire Davidson paid around £50million to gain a 96% share in Mallorca.

In doing so he beat off competition from former Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd and an unnamed Russian investor, who had both been rumoured to be interested in purchasing the Primera Liga side.

Surprisingly, Davidson admits that he knows little about the sport he has just invested heavily into, instead revealing that he hopes to use his new venture as a means of promoting his other business interests in Spain.

"I don't know much about football but I will use the club to promote my other business interests," he told the Daily Telegraph.

"We will operate our other businesses from the club, but I will not be taking decisions about football. I will leave that to the current management."

Is this a good move for mallorca? Knowing that the chairman knows nothing about football and seems to only care about his own business rather than the club?

Depends what your views are I suppose, it could be a good move in terms of money and success but do they want to go down the route of English clubs who have sold away their identity and soul for a bit of money & chance at success.

Id rather it doesnt happen but sooner or later Spanish clubs will probably go down the same route as England..

But in La Liga is different because nobody can buy the two biggest clubs Barça and Madrid and moreover Osasuna and Bilbao then perhaps the rich people aren't interested in La Liga.

Its just the way the world works, everything is geared towards money. Sooner or later the clubs will probably give in to it. Its down to the Spanish FA as well though, the English FA opened up the market for foreigners with all the money poured into the Premiership & the foreign investors saw the potential to make money. At the moment theres only a few clubs in Spain that really have that potential, Real & Barca obviously as well as clubs like Atlético & Sevilla but most smaller clubs are still unknown outside Europe

Well I suppose that someday rich foreigners will buy some clubs from La Liga but those 4 nowadays is 100% impossible. Because you can't buy what isn't for sell.

Why's it impossible to buy them? Are they all owned by the fans?
