Tranmere Rovers have confirmed the appointment of Ronnie Moore as their new manager.

Moore was surprisingly sacked by Oldham Athletic in the summer but has not been left on the shelf for long as Rovers have moved quickly to secure his services.

The former Rotherham chief is already a popular figure at Prenton Park having made over 300 appearances for the club in his playing days.

Earlier in his coaching career he was assistant manager at the club under John King and he has now been handed the task of rejuvenating the Merseyside outfit after a disappointing season last term.

Rovers chairman Lorraine Rogers has spoken of her delight at landing a manager she claims was always first choice to replace Brian Little.

''The board of directors are delighted Ronnie has agreed to become our manager as he was our first choice for the position,'' she told the club's official website.

"He was the only candidate with experience of League One and The Championship and who had managed a team to promotion out of our division."
