Tranmere midfielder Mark Rankine admits he is likely to play on next season and "all things being equal" he will be at Prenton Park.

The 35-year-old, who had expected to retire when his contract expires this summer, has managed 54 games for Rovers this season and has revealed other clubs are also interested in his services.

But if the former Wolves and Preston man gets the deal he wants, there is a good chance he will be playing for Brian Little next term.

He said: "We're all still disappointed about the play-offs but I probably feel more sorry for the younger lads who wanted to play in the Championship.

"People are saying there's a bit more left in the engine but I think I'll fail my MOT in a couple of years!

"I've got a few irons in the fire and I have to do what's best for my family but I've enjoyed my time at Tranmere and all things being equal, and hopefully I'll get an offer, I'll stay."
