Grays Athletic striker Aaron McLean has joined Peterborough United on a two-month loan deal, with a view to making the switch permanent in the New Year.

The 23-year-old hit-man has proved a revelation for the Essex side having switched from Aldershot Town in March 2005, scoring 23 goals in 45 starts, including 13 so far this term.

Moving in the other direction is Justin Richards, last year's Conference top scorer, who has failed to settle with Keith Alexander's men following a 50,000 switch from Woking in the summer.

Posh will pay Grays an estimated 100,000 for McLean should the clubs be willing to make the switch permanent in the January transfer window, although they are still reported to be interested in bringing MK Dons' hot property Izale McLeod to London Road.

McLean could make his debut in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round tie against Swansea on Tuesday night, and Posh boss Keith Alexander is happy with the acquisition of the non-league hotshot.

"He will bring us plenty of pace up front and hopefully some goals first and foremost," Alexander told the club's official website.

"He has been a regular scorer over the last couple of seasons in the Nationwide Conference.

"He is a player that a lot of clubs wanted to sign and we have moved for him at the right time."

Meanwhile, Peterborough's Chris Plummer looks close to agreeing an extension to his current deal at Grays having initially agreed to switch for one month.
