Top referee Pierluigi Collina will be allowed to carry on in domestic football for another year, the Italian football federation has confirmed.
Collina, 45, was due to retire this summer, but the sport's authorities have agreed to raise the maximum age for officials to 46.

The distinctive bald-headed referee can now handle Italian league and Champions League matches up to 30 June next year.

But he will be ruled out of officiating at the 2006 World Cup.

Collina has been voted world referee of the year five times and has been a referee for 28 years.

The pinnacle of his career was when he officiated at the 2002 World Cup final between Brazil and Germany.

Bring him to the premiership!!!!!

It is up the the FA to allow him - There was talk about it last year because the retirement age here for referee's is older!

Maybe he will finish his career here!

he should have been here last year , imagine had he been in charge of the Arsenal v Man Utd game we lost 2-0 . I wonder if he would have given a penalty to Wayne Rooney and would Ruud Van Nistelroy still have been on the pitch . We might have made 50 unbeaten matches and carried on to win the league . Remember up until then we were the untouchables .

I'd love to see him ref in the premiership. Hes not only a good referee but hes a character and is well liked and respected by the players.

Would definitely be a breath of fresh air.

Enforced retirement at 45 is crazy. He is still clearly one of the very best and surely would be for another 5 years at least. It's not like he struggles to keep up with the pace of the game.
