A total of 27 Napoli fans were arrested and 15 policemen wounded during their Coppa Italia tie with Roma on Thursday afternoon.

The match threatened to descend into anarchy as tear gas was used to protect the travelling fans before the match had even begun. Fireworks were then fired into the away end during the match and full scale rioting took place after the final whistle. Police cars were burned and the offices of local newspaper 'Le Cronache di Napoli' were pelted with stones while the Roma faithful were held in the San Paolo Stadium for three hours for their own protection.

At least the Giallorossi left with something to smile about as on the pitch they secured a comfortable 3-0 win, leaving their opponents a daunting task for the second leg in January. Striker Stefano Okaka, aged just 16, also came away happy after scoring his first ever goal for the club. Elsewhere, city rivals Lazio helped their progress with a 2-0 win over Cittadella partly thanks to a dubious Simone Inzaghi penalty and Cagliari earned a draw at Sampdoria with a last minute Andrea Cocco equaliser.

The controversy always seems to revolve around the Roma fans, it must be worrying because it only hinders their team.

Yes they dont seem to learn do they? Imagine being a little kid growing up in Rome loving Roma then one day you get a chance to go to a game, so excited you cant contain yourself then finding out that the match is being played behind closed doors cos some idiots did something stupid in a recent match.

Crazy Italian Fans dont even want to call them fans they need to take a look
at Engeland where going to a football match is something for the hole family.
Look at Del Alphi there can go 80.000 people in the stadium but there are only
about 10 to 15 thousand people there.
