Senegal have sacked their French coach Guy Stephan.
This follows their 2-2 draw with Togo in last weekend's Group One qualifier for next year's World Cup finals in Germany. "The contract between Guy Stephan and the state of Senegal has been ended," Senegal Football Federation President Said Fakhry said on Thursday. The draw with Group One leaders Togo left Senegal third in the table. They are two points adrift of the leaders and a point behind Zambia, with just two matches left in the qualifying race for the 2006 finals. Fakhry's statement came after his earlier meeting Prime Minister Macky Sall. State President Abdoulaye Wade fired Sports Minister Youssoupha Ndiaye on Wednesday, following mounting criticism of the team's performance in the media. Only the winners from the five African zone groups will qualify for the finals. |
