Norwegian keeper Thomas Myhre has confirmed he will be leaving Sunderland after being unable to agree a new deal.
The 31-year-old's contract expired at the end of the season and the club have brought in £1.25m Kelvin Davis.

"We couldn't agree new terms, but I'm leaving Sunderland with many happy memories. I have had some great times there," he told the Sunderland Echo.

"Sunderland have got a great manager and are a great club. I send all my wishes to them."

The club offered Myhre a new deal on reduced wages but the former Everton stopper has decided to look elsewhere.

Myhre played a major part in Sunderland winning the Championship last season after taking over when number one when Mart Poom got injured in October.

He moved to Wearside on a free transfer from Everton in July 2002 to provide the back-up to Thomas Sorensen.

The former Everton keeper had a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace and he was close to leaving the club permanently only for his proposed move to Selhurst Park to fall through.
