Gascoigne offered role by Clyde |
|
Ex-England midfielder Paul Gascoigne has been offered the chance to become a player-coach of Scottish side Clyde.
The 38-year-old left a similar role at Boston last October and has since been linked with clubs in the UK and abroad. Bully Wee boss Graham Roberts - also a former Tottenham and Rangers player - approached Gascoigne at an exhibition game for ex-Old Firm players in May. "I had a long chat with Paul and he told me he was desperate to get into coaching," he told the Daily Record. "This week I spoke to his advisor Dave McGhee about him becoming our player-coach next season. "He has spoken with Paul and he seems quite keen on the idea. "This would be a fantastic coup for us and with his talent and knowledge of the game it would be great for the youngsters at the club to work with him." Roberts has also approached another former Ibrox star, ex-Holland international Arthur Numan, to take up a similar role to Gascoigne. Numan has rejected his initial approach but the Clyde manager added: "I'm going to persevere." Former England defender Roberts, 45, took over at Broadwood Stadium last month after managerial stints with Yeovil and Enfield. He is keen to bring in new players after most of the squad left at the end of last season, and is in talks with a number of experienced players, including former Scotland midfielder Scot Gemmill. |

He is a wife beating alcoholic bad boy that played brilliant football, he can no longer play football so we're left with everything that's bad about him. I hope he has nothing to do with Scottish football, he is a bad influence, maybe five bellies could take training

He is a guy who has had an illness for many years. I have a very close friend who has OCD, and it is not an illness to joke about. Alcoholism also is not an illness to joke about either. Its like a disease and can ruin someones life and take over. All credit to Gazza for trying to get his life back and for trying to defeat this disease which has ruined so much of his life already.
I'm not sure whether he is the right guy for the position, but I think if they want to give him a go, then the fans would back him 100%. I would love to see gazza back in football. |

He is no role model at all as far as I'm concerned, I have no idea whether he is a reformed alcoholic or not, however his previous behaviour is something we can do without in football.
I've made no joke about Gazza's conditions, just wondered if he still had the hanger on's follow him and indulge his behaviour, you reap what you sow, illness or no illness. |
