Arsenal star Robin van Persie has been released from custody in Holland after spending two weeks behind bars over rape allegations.
The 21-year-old had been in custody in Rotterdam since being arrested on Monday June 13, after a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her.
A prosecution spokeswoman said Van Persie had been released earlier on Monday afternoon and was now free to return to England.
She said he remained a suspect, but that it was no longer necessary to keep him in custody.
"The investigation still goes on but it is not necessary to to hold him any longer," the spokeswoman for the Rotterdam prosecutor said.
"There are no other restrictions imposed on him, he is free to go anywhere he wants."
