Arteta: Up your offer Everton |

Mikel Arteta has warned Everton they must increase their wage offer if they hope to make his switch from Atletico Madrid permanent.
The Spanish midfielder joined the Toffees on loan from Los Colchoneros during the January transfer window and played an integral part in David Moyes' side qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. The Merseysiders have agreed a £2.8m deal with the La Liga outfit to sign the 23-year-old, who admitted earlier this summer that he was keen to make his move to Goodison Park long-term. But Everton are still locked in talks with the former Rangers star, who is thought to be looking for a wage packet worth £33,000-a-week. Arteta revealed: "Everton's latest offer is not what I'm looking for. "If I take the deal Everton are offering I would be earning less than I would in Spain." A Toffees spokesman told BBC Sport: "We agreed a fee, which left us to negotiate personal terms, and talks to that end are still continuing." Arteta believes the Premiership club can afford to meet his demands as they are set to receive a pay-out for taking part in next season's Champions League. He said: "If Everton are going to play in the Champions League, they have a certain amount of money coming in guaranteed, so they should make an effort with players' contracts. "Right now I feel closer to starting pre-season training with Sociedad than I do starting training with Everton." |
