Departing Newcastle winger Laurent Robert has been fined two weeks' wages for the second time in 24 hours after a fresh attack on manager Graeme Souness.

The 30-year-old Frenchman, who was hit with a similar penalty yesterday for a breach of club discipline following a newspaper broadside aimed at the Scot, received a second dose today over claims that England midfielder Jermaine Jenas is ready to quit Tyneside.

Furious chairman Freddy Shepherd has also reported the player, who is due to join Portsmouth on Friday, to the Football Association.

"He was warned not to do it and he must suffer the consequences," Shepherd told the club's official website.

"We have also reported him to the Football Association and we are seeking guidance from them on any further action they may wish to take."

Robert landed himself in hot water once again for suggesting Jenas could be prepared to leave the club which signed him as a teenager for £5million in February 2002.

"I have seen Jermaine Jenas growing up at Newcastle and he is a brilliant player who could become the new Patrick Vieira," he said. "But I know just how badly he took to being put on the bench last season.

"Now he is at a turning point in his career and I think he will leave."

Speculation over Jenas' future has been rife in recent weeks and there is little doubt the 22-year-old was devastated to find himself on the bench for a five-match spell towards the end of last season.

Speculation about interest from Arsenal and Tottenham - Spurs were reported to have tabled a £6million bid for him at the weekend - has led Newcastle to insist Jenas is not for sale.

"JJ's an important member of the squad," Souness said recently. "I made him captain last year and that shows what I think of him."

Shepherd added earlier this week: "We have not heard from Tottenham and, even if we did, we would tell them that JJ is not for sale. JJ is a player we all rate very highly - Graeme made him captain last season when Alan (Shearer) was injured and that shows how important he is to us - and he will not be going anywhere."
