Julio Baptista To Arsenal Rumour

I don’t think this will happen, because Julio Baptista isn’t the type of central midfielder Wenger normally buys (attacking central midfielders), he uses 2 holding midfielders, so Julio Baptista wouldn’t fit into the current Arsenal system.

If we signed him he'd probably play upfront. He can play there. He f*cking rules. If we get him I will chain myself naked to the walls of Highbury to show my appreciation.

do any of u lot watch la liga?

julio baptista is an out and out striker. When sevilla bought him...they bought him as a midfielder, but as they were impressed with his power, pace and finishing ability...they decided to play him upfront. And the fact that he has scored over 50 goals in 2 seasons, shows hes a striker.

Its a dead cert that we will get him...he will be an Arsenal player at the start of next week. And hes [beep!] amazing. Its the same as he has done with Hleb...1st of all putting a shitty small bid in....in order that we get cheapest possible price.

Being a supporter of the Gunner's, the one thing I think those of you who also are supporters are forgetting is that Wenger is known for taking players who come to the side playing one position and allowing them to play another position where they shine, obviously Henry is the most apparent, Toure is another, Lauren as well as was van Bronckhurst when he was here. Baptista may or may not come, but to say he's not a good fit isn't true, with his talent and those players around him, he would be a welcome addition. Let's hope he does come. Wink

Too bad for you, stevespuds, that he will just be another name on the list of 'nearly signed' players for Sp*rs.

Although I am starting to have my doubts we will get him. We're taking too damn long. But if we lose out on him, it will be to another big club, not wannabes like the Spurs.

He said he is staying with Sevilla for another year...
He wants to become a European citizen and needs to stay in Spain for that to happen.

The arrival of striker Salva Ballesta on Friday in Sevilla could see the club reconsider their decision to keep Baptista if Arsenal, cash rich from the the sale of Patrick Vieira to Juventus, make a further bid for a player who started out as a central midfielder before becoming a striker.

it looks like it could be on again for Arsenal to get Baptista if they still want him , if you believe the above .
Arsenal have had a new bid of £13.75m for Sevilla's Julio Baptista turned down, according to the Spanish club.
Sevilla say the Gunners have previously had three verbal offers rejected for the 23-year-old striker, although Arsenal have made no official comment.

Now though they have offered 20m euros - exactly the amount Juventus have agreed to pay them for Patrick Vieira.

But Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido said: "We haven't reached an agreement with Arsenal."

Del Nido said the new offer was 20m euros and admitted that was "much higher" than Arsenal's previous bids.

But he added: "The figures are still not close to what we are asking for.
