FOOTBALL Federation Australia has earmarked almost $1.5 million to bring a clutch of Socceroos back to the A-League after the World Cup.

After almost a year of discussion, it is believed a "repatriation" policy is close to being finalised, with the likes of Stan Lazaridis, John Aloisi, Craig Moore, Scott Chipperfield and Tony Popovic being targeted to return as early as next season. Inaugural minor premiers Adelaide United are leading the hunt, hoping to add both Lazaridis and Aloisi to their squad in time for the new season's kick-off in August.

Will the $1.5 mill be spread evenly amongst the 8 clubs? Or is the FFA prepared to pay some of the fees in conjunction with the club that one of the roos sign for?

Its a good policy, good luck to Australia with this one.

The future on the A League is getting big stars, especially Australian ones, to see it as a viable option for their career, and these players are a great start. The American league has started doing this now with the likes of Landon Donovan, one of their best players staying in the country and playing domestic football there.

It would be terrific for the A-League if we could follow on from the World Cup euphoria by having some of the guys involved in the A-League next season. I'm not sure about the likelihood of some of those players coming back yet. Lazaridis will be there, but I think it's a bit early for Aloisi and Moore (wouldn't mind being wrong though).

I've been amazed by the incredible interest in the World Cup in Australia. I get asked all the time now at work and amongst friends (as the resident football fanatic amongst the union and league supporters) about players and countries. People are getting into debates over tactics, Harry's groin and so who's this Ronaldinho bloke anyway etc. Everyone's becoming an expert overnight, it's brilliant. The A-League has to capitalise on it.
