Charlton's UEFA Cup hopes dashed |
|
Charlton will not feature in the draw for the Uefa Cup next season after the Premiership's Fair Play ranking fell short of the required mark.
The Addicks had been told by the Football Association that they would be involved in Sunday's draw. But they were then informed of their non-participation by a journalist. Charlton chief executive Peter Varney said: "The whole situation is a complete shambles and reflects very poorly on both our own FA and UEFA." Flights had already been booked for a Charlton delegation to travel to Porto where the draw is to be held. And Varney added: "We had a letter from the FA informing us that we were nominated as their representative in the draw to take place on Sunday. "We had even progressed as far as confirming the arrangements with Uefa for our representatives to travel out to Portugal when we heard the news. "On checking this with the FA they advised us that they had not received a copy of the revised draw participants from Uefa, but that on checking with Uefa we were apparently no longer in the draw." |
