From Womens Soccer Scene:
Everton get quiz show blues Five of the Everton squad boldly attempted to show off their brain power when trying to beat some of the best quiz players in the country. Becky Easton, Rachel Brown, Lindsay Johnson, Jody Handley and Kelly McDougall all appeared in the BBC2 quiz show Eggheads with a prize of £33,000 on offer for beating the resident team of quiz show experts. Their efforts proved to be unsuccessful but Becky did have the satisfaction of beating the 'Brain of Britain' Champion in the head-to-head round. We promise not to reveal any of their wrong answers, in order to avoid embarrassment! ------------------------------------------------------------- How come we get to know these things after they've been aired? Has anyone seen the show? |

From Women's Soccer Scene:
Everton to tour Canada Everton Ladies are to participate in a ground breaking pre-season tour to Canada. The Toffees, who finished second in the FA Women's Premier League this term, jet off to North America later this month. It is the first time such a pre-season tour has taken place and it comes about in conjunction with the Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) Everton launched a partnership with the OSA last year, aiming to increase the number of people playing football in the area. The Blues will be based in Toronto for the majority of the trip, playing games against four leading local sides. The first match will see the Ladies play the talented and highly regarded Ontario under-16 All-Stars. They are the number one ranked age group team in Canada and have a number of Canada's under-17 team amongst their ranks. They will then take on the Oakville Storm on Friday June 30 before playing Woodbridge Azzurri on July 2 and he next game sees Everton travel to the Canadian capital to play Ottawa Fury on July 4. Everton CEO Keith Wyness said: "We are delighted that this inaugural trip can take place, it is all part of the Play Soccer initiative that was launched in partnership with the OSA in November. "We hope to increase both the interest in the game, The Play Soccer initiative, and in Everton Football Club itself." Guy Bradbury, OSA Chief Executive, added: "The tour is an extension of our ongoing relationship with Everton Football Club and our teams are looking forward to playing at such a high level." The Oakville Storm are the flagship women's team of Oakville Soccer Club, Canada's largest football club with just over 10,000 registered players, half of which are female players. The Storm are the defending Ontario Cup Champions as well as Ontario Women's Soccer League (OWSL) champions. They enjoyed an incredible year in 2005, going undefeated in the league. The Storm have represented Ontario at the National Club Championships several times and were crowned Canadian Champions in 2002. Special guests Mayor Ann Mulvale and Ontario Member of Parliament, Kevin Flynn, will be present for the game, and Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn was born in Liverpool and is a die hard Everton FC fan! Woodbridge Azzuri are an up and coming team who have enjoyed startling progress in the OWSL. They have won over 90% of their games since their inception four years ago. The Ottawa Fury play in the W-League, the highest level of women's football in North America. At the end of the season, play offs take place to determine the overall champions, with the Fury reaching the final four in each of the last three years. They were the beaten finalists in 2005 despite having the best overall record in the competition. They boast key players such as Rhian Wilkinson and Kelly Parker who scored 38 and 37 goals respectively last season. Everton will take a strong squad to to Canada, with goalkeeper Rachel Brown a notable absentee. They do include England regulars Fara Williams and Rachel Unitt. The schedule is as follows: v Ontario Provincial Team U-16 Girls Thursday, June 29th in Vaughan at the Ontario Soccer Centre -- (Kick Off 7:00 PM) v Oakville Storm Senior Women Friday, June 30th in Oakville at Pine Glen Park -- (Kick Off 7:00 PM) v Woodbridge Azzurri Senior Women Sunday, July 2nd in Vaughan at the Ontario Soccer Centre -- (Kick Off 3:00 PM) v Ottawa Fury Women Tuesday, July 4th in Ottawa at Keith Harris Stadium, Carleton University -- (Kick Off 6:30 PM) Good luck you BLUES! |

It will be very tough, will be good for the likes of Faye Macca and Woody as they not played a lot of games last season. Woody is now in training hopefully may get a game out there ready for next season. Hopefully a good season will see her in the squad for China that is if we qualify.

Everton Ladies ran out 6-0 victors over the Oakville Storm to record the first win of their Canadian tour.
Following a 3-3 draw just 24 hours earlier, the Blues ran-out comfortable winners in Friday evening's match. Rachel Unitt scored twice, while there were also goals for Kelly McDougall, Fara Williams, Michelle Hennigan and Channy Parry. The game started in lively fashion with chances for both sides before the opener. But by the time Unitt tapped in from a corner, Everton had already gone close through Leanne Duffy, Parry, and Michelle Evans - the latter striking the stanchion with a long range effort. The game was now one-way traffic and just before the half hour mark Parry did score with a terrific effort from the right hand side of the penalty area. Jayne Eadie produced an important block in her own six-yard box before Fara Williams came to the fore. The England international had a scissor kick just wide and a lob just over before forcing a save from the keeper with another effort moments before half time. After the break it was more of the same, and Unitt made it 3-0 from a corner on 62 minutes. Manager Mo Marley took the opportunity to introduce some younger players into the fray, and one, Abby Pullen, went close before being fouled inside the box by the onrushing goalkeeper. Williams duly despatched the penalty to make it 4-0. Another Williams effort was then stopped on the line, but rookie Michelle Hennigan was on hand with the rebound. McDougall then burst into the box to complete the scoring and there was even time for Danielle Hill to ensure a clean sheet with a fine left handed save with two minutes left. |

Everton Ladies have won the third game of their pre-season tour of Canada.
They overcame Woodbridge Azzurri 2-0 thanks to goals from Kelly McDougall and Fara Williams. Despite dominating the game, they were unable to fashion as many chances as in the 6-0 demolition of Oakville Storm earlier in the week. The Toffees started brightly in the match, where temperatures were around 30 degrees. There were early efforts from Nicky Harding and Fay McCoy from distance, but McCoy then had to leave the field with a knee injury. She was replaced by Fara Williams and her first major role was to despatch a 25th minute penalty - awarded after Amy McCann was brought down in the box. There was plenty of good work in the defensive ranks as well, with Fern Whelan regularly snuffing out Woodbridge's attacks in their infancy. The Canadians tried to restore parity after the break, but Williams was on hand with a well timed tackle to remove the danger. Then, just a minute later, she fired a long range drive wide of the upright. On the hour, the lead was doubled. Kelly McDougall left the opposition keeper no chance when she produced a smart finish. Once again Everton introduced some young faces as the game progressed, and fresh legs were required. Claire Owens had a long range attempt, and Williams threatened again, but the score remained 2-0. There was just time for the Azzurri to strike the crossbar before time was called on the contest. Everton now face Ottawa Fury on Tuesday in their final game. |

Captain Leanne Duffy believes the heat was a major factor in Everton's performance on Sunday.
The game, a 3pm kick off, was played in very hot conditions. And although the Toffees were 2-0 victors, Duffy said the temperature had been an issue. She told Evertonfc.com: "It was tough with the heat. It was our toughest test so far - not because they were the toughest team but it was just a new experience playing in that type of heat. "We tried to keep the ball and tried to limit the amount of running we had to do." The match was also the third 90 minute outing the side had played in four days. "I think people just didn't have it in them today," continued Duffy, "With it being our third game and, more than anything, the heat. "A lot of people are tired but we have got a decent sized squad so we have tried to use as many people as possible." As part of her captain's role, the midfielder has been guiding younger squad members through the tour. She explained: "The main point is not to waste possession and to try to keep the ball and that is what we are trying to drum into everyone in the team." And Duffy also added that the physiological benefits were already becoming apparent. She said: "I am fitter now than I was this time last year so I have just got to work on that and try and keep it up when I get back as well." The Blues now play Ottawa Fury - a match likely to be their toughest yet. "We are just praying that it is raining!" said the skipper. "We have been told that Ottawa Fury are a good team, on a par with Arsenal probably, so we know we have got a tough test ahead. "There's is no point coming here and playing teams who are not going to test us so we are all looking forward to it." |

This will be the biggest test for Everton, Unitt played against the Fury in the W-League final last year scoring the opening goal for New Jersey Wildcats. I would be happier if we had Brownie in goal.
