Sydney FC midfielder David Carney has re-signed with the inaugural Hyundai A-League champions for another season despite receiving several offers from overseas.

Carney received offers from both English and German clubs, as well as four other Hyundai A-League teams, but instead decided to remain with the A-League's glamour side.

"I did receive offers from overseas and I wanted to have a look but to be honest Sydney FC is a far better option at this stage," Carney said.

"I absolutely loved it last year and I am looking forward to playing for Sydney again in the A-League.

"Last season was awesome. To be playing football in my home city for a great club like Sydney FC in front of big crowds at Aussie Stadium was great and I want to be part of a team that wins back-to-back titles."

The 22-year-old played in England and Scotland before joining with Sydney but felt it was only worth moving back to Europe if he was going to play with a big club because of the strength of the competition in Australia.

"I didn't think it was worth going overseas to play with a club that wasn't one of the big clubs in Europe," he said.

"I've been in Europe, playing at a big club and also some small clubs and unless you are at a big club it is nowhere near as good as playing in the A-League."

"I think the days of players heading overseas as soon as they get a chance are gone."

Carney, who scored six goals in his 24 games for Sydney in the 2005/06 season, also earned a call up to the Australian side for the Asian Cup qualifier against Bahrain, and is keen to break into the national side again soon.

"Playing for Australia was a dream for me and I want to get back into the team as quickly as possible," he said.

"It is going to be hard because the lads have done so well in Germany but hopefully there will be a few gaps open up for the game against Kuwait.

"It would be unbelievable to play for my country at Aussie Stadium."

Carney is now back in training with the team ahead of its season opener against the Mariners in August

Great news not only for Sydney but also for the league. He was one of the shining lights in a fantastic first season. Good to see that he rejected all the overseas offers. Hopefully there will be a few more players like him who decide to stay in Australia.

Yeah this is terrific news, along with Yorke he was our best player last season. He's clearly marked himself as a future regular in the Socceroos and it's great that at this crucial stage of his career he's decided the best move for now is to stay here. As you wrote, hopefully he'll be one of many to make that decision.
