Smith staying put

Winger Jeff Smith has signed a new one-year deal at Port Vale.
The former Bolton man, 25, had stalled over Vale's initial offer - but has become the sixth out-of-contract player to re-sign this summer.

Boss Martin Foyle told BBC Radio Stoke: "If Jeff can prove his fitness, he'll be a valuable addition. I've got a good feeling this will be his season."

Other players recently re-signing with Vale include new skipper George Pilkington and midfielder Danny Sonner.
