Aston Villa are still not quite safe from relegation but a win against Tottenham would almost certainly be enough to ensure a place in the Premier League next season ..easier said than done though .

Tottenham moved to within a point of Arsenal with a 4-1 win over struggling Bolton ...the race for a guaranteed Champions League place next season is now likely to be decided on the final day of the season ..

Lets have it, Villa have been a very average side this season, and Spurs have found their mojo again. The fire power Spurs displayed against Bolton was really encouraging. Villa 0 Spurs 3.

On top of it Rose was red carded. The Spurs are playing with 10 men. Dimwits, I should say.

How about it, the Spurs equalized. One more baby.

10 man Spurs equalised with a penalty from Adebayor on 61 minutes.

Sorry to bring up Arsenal again but today has been a huge let off for us with Newcastle losing and Spurs drawing. It still leaves 3rd in our own hands though I have absolutely zero confidence we can do it.

Good result for Villa which just about guarantees their safety, Spurs did well to save it with only 10 men and it keeps them in the hunt, win their final game and see what happens for them.

Result

Sunday May 6th
Aston Villa 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
1-0 Clark 35'
1-1 Adebayor 61’ (pen.)

Is this point going to be enough to save Aston Villa from relegation?

Any comments on todays result?

Yeah - the goal difference between Bolton and Villa is 17 goals, so even if Villa lose their last game and QPR, Wigan and Bolton win theirs it's too big a gap to bridge.

Disappointed we didn't kill the game off - we were the better team even with 10 men, but thats football for you. Still hanging on by our fingernails - looks like its down to Spurs and Arsenal for 3rd spot now. Oh my giddy aunt!

Whilst we were slack at the back, you were sloppy up toppy.

I always laugh watching Aaron Lennon. The way he moves his short legs, like Scrappy-doo. He zooms up and down the wing, back and forth at lightspeed but rarely picks a decent pass or cross. No end product. Constantly gave it away and nor he or Bale could really find Adebayor who looked quite lazy again.

Whole team looked like they were running on empty. Don't know what Gallas was doing at the end, just lumping the ball out for a throw when you had a couple of minutes left to snatch 3rd spot.

Newcastle can still do it...Spurs and Arsenal have bottled it so many times this season we can't be confident about anything.

Good point in the end. We'll definitely get Champions League football next season. Question is whether we finish 3rd or 4th.

Villa scored a deflected goal and apart from that we battered them, even with 10 men. We just didn't get the luck. Can't criticise the team at all.

Beat Fulham and we're there. If Arsewipes mess up at the Hawthorns, then 3rd is ours.

Danny Rose is a massive Arsenal fan, well he was when he signed for us. I sense a conspiracy!

But seriously, we bottled that chance. We could be going into the final day in 3rd spot yet we failed to capitalise on Arsenal slipping up. Unforgivable really, Villa have been really poor lately and it was away from home but should have been a win. Top teams capitalise on situations like that and we just let it slide by.

I dont want to rely on Chelsea losing the CL final but I think we will have to now unless Arsenal slip up again against West Brom.

...only 3rd place will definately guarantee Champions League football next season , the 4th place team will have a nervous wait until Chelsea play their Champions League final with Bayern Munich ..

If you finish 4th you will become a Bayern fan on the 19th of May for one night.

Chelsea will not beat Bayern in Munich.

The Germans are a better team anyway plus it's in their backyard. I'm not even nervous about it if we do end up in 4th.
