Everton v Newcastle

Postby Conner99 » Wed Sep 12, 2012 8:25 pm

Everton were denied the chance to leap into second place in the table as they lost 2-0 to West Brom , manager David Moyes explained his tactics after the game .."We made changes to try and win the game, brought Kevin Mirallas on, opened up the game a bit more. We weren't playing well enough in the final third, but it didn't improve anything".

Newcastle came from behind to rescue a point against Aston Villa ...manager Alan Pardew will be frustrated after such a good opening day win over Tottenham ..now a defeat and a draw leaves him looking for consistency in the Premier League ...

Did you know that Since August 1998, this fixture has seen more penalties (13) than any other in the Premier League.

Any comments or predictions for tonights match?

HT

Everton 1-0 Newcastle

The Toffees dominated the 1st period.

Baines was excellent scoring and also clearing a Toon effort off the line.

It's goal line technology time again after Everton have a goal disallowed which should have stood. That and Fellaini scored, and was judged to be offside. He was onside.

Great game though, with Newcastle giving Everton a good test in the second half.

Brilliant game of two different halves and full respect to Everton football club for what they did before kick off...i hate them as a team for obvious reasons but as a club they are absolutely superb.

Aaaaaand breathe!

Thought we were gonna get a tonking after seeing the first half. We had one chance through Cisse which he should have buried, and another by Anita cleared off the line. Aside from that it was the Everton and Baines show.

Second half, Ba comes on, 1-1 after 4 minutes. Then the game just exploded! We eventually created more chances and actually posed a threat. But Everton must feel so hard done by - 2 goals disallowed for offside, and 1 cleared off the line that was actually a goal.

All in all, dead happy to have come away with a point. Especially as we were without Coloccini, Krul, Simpson and Tiote. Marveaux didn't look in the game at all unfortunately which is a shame cos he's got talent.

And never leave Ba on the bench again.

Have to feel for Everton, could have had it sewn up at 3-1 but for the lino, that said they didnt and Newcastles 2nd half performance gave them a point. Ba was pretty lethal tonight, his 2nd was a quality finish.

Result

Mon 17th September

Everton 2-2 Newcastle
1-0 Baines 15’
1-1 Ba 49’
2-1 Anichebe 88’
2-2 Ba 90'

Newcastle did well to fight back in the 2nd half and earn a point
but you have to feel sorry for Everton who were denied two legitimate goals.

Any more comments on last nights match?

It was a strange decision by Alan Pardew to start last nights game with Demba Ba on the bench?!

Surely the Toon are better upfront when he is alongside Papiss Cisse which is why they did so well last season.

Yeh that confused the lot of us; fans, neutrals, and Ba himself.

Must have been the way he wanted to set up against a side who attack down the wings a lot. Marveaux was obviously the one who came in for him, and he's more of a wide players to maybe assist with stopping Baines and Piennaar. As we all saw though, those 2 had Marveaux in their pockets all half. So a brave but unsuccessful move by Pards.
