England Out - Lets Be Realistic

I have read loads of threads of petty little arguements going on regarding our exit of the World Cup and thought I would join and put my 2 pennith in, so here it is -

To start with I am an England fan, I was as devestated as any other English person but I am going to try and be realistic. We certainly did not perform like a world beating side this summer and from Sven's tactics I personally arent suprised. We were all shocked with the strikers he selected and knew he was making the wrong decision, however we had to live with it. He made the decisions.

On the day I dont think Portugal or England actually deserved to win. One thing is for sure, it is clear that country will always mean more than club to players. If you watch the highlights again, look at Rooney's face as Ronaldo is asking the referee what he is going to do about the stamp!!! Rooney actually says "Ronnie" to Ronaldo as if to say "what you doing mate". However when it comes to the cunch Ronaldo clearly thinks more of his country than he does of his team mates. I personally think that is was disgusting what he did, it wasnt the fact that he ran to the referee, it was the headbutt and the whispers at the beginning of the game. I could understand it if it was Ronaldo doing it to say Stevie, or Becks but to his own team mate!!! Not like pooing on your own doorstep!!!!!

HOWEVER, and I am sure to get slated for this, and I agree that it is not a gentleman like way to play football, but if you look on the flip side of the coin, Ronaldo knew Rooney_79586.shtml'>Wayne Rooney was our main striking threat and he knew his weaknesses. He played on them throughout the game and maybe Rooneys immaturity got the better of him? The referee only needed the slightest of excuses to produce that card, and I am sure Sven must have discussed this with Rooney.

Dont get me wrong, I arent justifying the decision to send him off, I think that was harsh (based on the headbutt by Ronaldo at the beginning of the game!) At the end of the day I believe there is only one person to blame and that is the man who has come to England, delivered absolutley nothing and has taken from us £4 million pound a year........................SVEN. We have quality players in England. Jermaine Defoe, even Darius Vassell, many many players who he could have taken. Instead he took players who were never going to feature. How many players would need to be injured for Jermaine Jenas to have played?? Think about it, how many replacements did we have for that role, how many did we have for strikers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I hate Ronaldo and personally think that it would be an insult to English football fans if he comes back to play in the Premiership. One thing footballers should all have is respect for eachother, especially your team mates. It is one thing to be passionate for your country, it is another being respectful to your fellow players.

I arent blaming Ronaldo for our exit, nor am I blaming the referee, nor am I blaming Rooney. I blame one man and that is the man who picks the team, SVEN. Im glad to see him go I just hope McClaren hasnt learnt anything from him.

Quality players missed penalties again SHOCK. Sven knows what were like in penalties so as soon as Rooney was sent off he played for penalties!!! Come on it takes no genius to figure that is a bad decision. At that stage we should have had a striker on the bench to come on and take Rooneys place, Defoe for one. Sven lost his bottle and didnt bring on Walcott, who I have seen play in the Championship and am quite sure his pace would have frightened Portugal.

It is the same old England. The media put that much pressure on the team that they crumble. Its nice to see the support on this forum from overseas for our loss tonight Come on guys, there is alot of passion here in England. You cant say what Ronaldo did was exactly sporting to his team mate, colleague?

However thats life, and I certainly dont blame anyone else other than Sven and the tactics, decisions. We had enough quality in the country to certainly put in a better performance than we managed in the World Cup but the boys werent given tactics to work to their strengths.

Sorry to rant but I think this is a fair rant. Besides I hate to say it but it looks like its gonna be Germany's World Cup. I wanna see Ronaldo crying

We need a manager who is willing to take risks, to encourage creative play and to get these foreign players who are "spying" on our players out of our leagues!!! Mind you, how good would the premiership be then???

I bet the likes of Beckham and Ronaldo of Brazil were texting eachother good luck when the likes of Ronaldo (portugal) was plotting his team mates downfall. At the end of the day it worked but he certainly hasnt made any friends and wont win the world cup anyway!!! I think it will be Rooney that will be laughing back at Man Utd when Ronaldo is forced out to Madrid to sit on their bench

you dont understand what Ronaldo did? Its only a game? If only that was true. Only a game is £4,000,000 a year to a man who cant deliever more than a morning erection!!! We, the English public pay week in week out to see the "best players in the world". What we dont want is people coming into our country and taking money from the English public in wages, and then act like he did.

I think going upto the referee maybe wasnt an intent to get Rooney sent off there and then, I think he maybe wanted him carding which is fair enough, Rooney stamped on someone. What Ronaldo did happened way way way before then. Before kick off when he whispered something to Rooney then "rubbed heads and inended to headbutt him", if that was done in the game, Ronaldo would have been sent off yes.

What he did was shady, and he knew he would achieve what happaned. I dont agree with it, nor do I agree with Rooney stamping on someone, however what was they whispering to Rooney? I am sure I could say a few things to you to get you wound up. Rooney needs to learn from what Ronaldo did to him. He needs to mature, he needs to respect Ronaldo for getting one over him and he needs to move on. He knows he is a better player than Ronaldo and that is why he wanted Rooney off the pitch. He has nothing to prove and inevitably Ronaldo is going to be a very unsettled player in any club because no one will trust him. I dont, and I dont think he should play in our country again. Spies used to get hung in the war (I obviousley arent stating he should be hung lol), what will we be rewarding Ronaldo with? Thousands of pounds from the English public. Come on Ronaldo do the dignified thing and dont even bother coming back.

I am a MU fan and although it has been said that country comes before club Twinkle Toes wants his head examininig for getting involved in the decision to send Rooney off. Personally I would buy his ticket to spain and good ridance, he could have just observed from wherever he was the decision of the referee and nobody would have bothered but I can guarentee that both MU fans and opposition will make their feelings known with his every kick of the ball next season.

Nah, Rooney will get his revenge in the next training match for Man U

Though I think its more likely Rooney will get his revenge if Man U play Real Madrid.

andyf - LOL I know, I didnt realise how much I wrote until I actually re-read it Sorry. In short, we werent robbed, Svens fault. Ronaldo is a Loser who should never return to English soil and forget the penalty Stevie, you need to captain us in 2 years

I feel so sorry for England this afternoon. So sorry! They were better than Portugal, physically, more realist and mentaly strong. Portugal was more technique, but not enough to beat England. It was so incredible to see a team that has only 10 players dominating a match!!! More action, very good resistance and very calm, England deserve so much that match, but the red card on Rooney has changed everything... England has done one of its best match in that WC, unfortunatly it lost.

Damn, I hate so much that portuguese team, they wanted to destroy the match as they did to the Netherlands. What a wonderful player is Ronaldo, but what an unfair player he is...

Else, I'm happy for french portuguese tonight, saw many of them tonight while going home, I'm happy to see them happy as we are, they supported us too

Don't be hastey i understand your an irrate England fan, but Rooney deserved to go anyway (Coming from a biased Utd fan). Ronaldo is a key player for us an there is no need getting rid of him unless there is just a good if not better player coming in to replace him.

Finally, how can anyone possibly match Chelsea? Money has and is continuing to ruin this game. Its producing players like Ronaldo, greedy, cocky, disrespectful LOSERS.

No one disputes the red card but there is a thing called dignity and Ronaldo doesn't have any..He will be off before the new season if it isn't a done deal already...

I am not defending Rooney but I do think that Ronaldo behaved fairly unsportsman like today. Irrate England fan or not, do you think any team in England will sign Diego Maradona after his hand of god?
