Todays footballers are far more skilled at the art of feeding the press what they want to hear and difusing situations and basicaly are told what to say by various publicists and agents but it would be interesting to be a fly on the wall when Ronaldo gets back to Manchester..I suspect it will just take something stupid to set it all off again

20 years ago what happened Saturday would have been sorted out on the pitch

I heard Lampard make the comments quoted by Connor after the game so i know those to be true

I think that those statements made by the players were well said. I think that they sum up the mood of the fans both before and after the game, and I know that I share the majority of the views on show.

They look genuine. Although they are quite presumptious, I don't think that the players would think that they were too harsh to say publicly.
Heres my favoutites;

Quote:
It`s up to FIFA and the game`s authorities to sort it out , or we are going to havve to stoop to their level to beat them . -Joe Cole

Quote:
Wayne should have had a free kick 15 or 20 seconds before the incident .

Quote:
Any other team they go down and the referee gives a foul . But Wayne stayed on his feet and tried to win the ball , even though he had two defenders fighting him . That is the honesty we show .
- Terry

Quote:
Maybe we are a victim of our own honesty in England. He was being fouled but tried to be strong and carry on . If had happened to one of their players they would have gone down straight away and the referee would have given a free kick
- Lampard

If you watch the italians or the portuguese (or Henry Wink) Then they will go down the moment there is any contact. Pretty much half of the italian team will do this, and clutch the ball as they fall so the ref has no choice but to blow.

Just think, 2 seconds into the 15, Rooney goes down and grabs the ball. england have no problem

Let's be respectful Very Happy
There's something I don't understand: Why are we carrying this to the international situation? I mean, I've read several posts about England and Portugal, when it should be about Rooney and Ronaldo.
Personally, I think Rooney was guilty and deserved the red card if not more. I hate when players use dirty tricks, so I also understand the british complaints, but I don't understand why are you always complaining about diving, when your players do the same.

Why are we quoting tabloid quotes and discussing their veracity? What part of "tabloid" is it that people just don't seem to understand?

Rooney didnt stamp on purpose, ronaldo is cheating scum and is bad for football in general, he was full of stupid smirks when it happened and even more smarmy when they won.
But lets face it, it was nice while it lasted cos france is going to splatter his stupid smirk all over the pitch when they wipe the floor with portugal....vive la france Laughing

Nothing to do with upset englishmen at all, dont like cheating scum.

Get over it....
and if you send Cristiano Ronaldo out of Man Utd, it is actually good for him.Manchester United can hardly play...they just kick the ball in the air and hope for a header or a rebound in the area that's why a Portuguese teams that have 1/1000 of the money english teams have can kick them arround, just like Chelsea does with their Portuguese style of play. Chelsea play exactly in the same style as our National team....and maybe so should you if you want to win something.

Your luck is that you have tons of money in your clubs and so you can get the best player from the other countrys...if it was just the english players in the premiership it would be depressing....in 20 teams you could only find about 8 or 9 good players...Gerrard, Lampard, Lennon, Joe Cole, Rooney, Terry, Ferdinand (and this without thinking that Mourinho made Joe Cole, Lampard and Terry world class players out of reasonable ones)...and little more. If only Cristiano Ronaldo was english and you didn't have a right winger that can't drible even himself (Beckham), and another problem is your defenders have stones instead of kidneys, it was just amazing how easy garry neville was dribled...(and unfortunatelly Nuno Valente must have got that terrible disease to....Lennon did want he wanted to him)

I can only give you one thing...sometimes Portuguese, Spanish, Brazilians and others with the same type of game just fall to easy and stay down forever when they are winning...but you also took forever to restart the game....

As for you losing down because you were with 10 man....we had one player less during much of the game against the Netherlands and still we won...
Portugal is doing very well in the last few years and that's because we have some players that can change a game in one play...you only have nice longshooters, it's just not enough.

By the way.....is Crouch even a football player.....or did you just get him out of the basketball field to complete you team? the ball seams like a cube in his feet!!!

He´s just good with his head (because he is taller than the others)but just when he gets the ball. In the game with Portugal they really tried to find his head... Very Happy Crouch is terrible. Bad with his legs, gets tired easily and the little portuguese marked him very easily and also took the bool the same easy. Bad choice.

Rooney is out, and it's sad now. Crying or Very sad

Because it was too funny with him, he makes me think of Eric Cantonna. I hope to watch Rooney again early.
