What a game..I had a feeling it might go to PK's that's why I was asking how many times the World Cup Final went to PK's.....both teams were good...seemed like Italy were more worn out towards the end and even after the Zindane incident the French seemed to have more energy...but definitely at a disavantage for PK's without Zidane, Henry and the one other player I can't recall the name of...

The headbutt from Zidane......... totally uncalled for and a terrible to leave the Intl pitch forever because he could have followed in Beckenbauer's footsteps as did Beckenbauer way back when with his arm in a sling..
Howerver,,,,,,He and Mastriami (spelling sorry!} were going at it the whole game and Zindanes emotions got the better of him (and he probably felt like heck with an injury and all)....But this was similar to Rooney when he was encouraged on into a fight and got red carded out of England game....it think this was similar I can only imagine what M. the Italian player was saying to him (you can see he kept sayng stuff then the final statement must have been a doozer to get Zidane to explode)...I feel bad he went out like that because it was the heat of the moment thing and if he had it to do over again he would have closed his ears to it and finished the game even losing with his arm in a sling would have been better than what happened....it's a game to remember....

I think Buffon is one of the best goalies of all time...the Italian defense the best too. French's offense, determination the best!

What a shame Zidane went out like that, although I was kind of mad to see Zidane on the ground most of the game with no flags or fouls, but that's just my opinion. Materazzi in my opinion is the PLAYER OF THE GAME since he provoked Zidane into getting a red card + he scored a goal and made his PK. But still no matter if Zidane stayed in or went out, France lost. They had plenty of chances with him and without him. I can't believe Trezeguet missed the PK, it was wide open! But anyway, I would love to see Zidane play another world cup or at least play in the Euro 08. Congrats to Italy, though even if I was going for France. Heck of a game! Last note: I think it was stupid that they kept showing the replay on the big screen, Zidane might not have gotten thrown out. I'm not saying what he did was right, but that was a stupid thing to keep on doing. I bet any money the refs were looking up there and thats why the main ref asked the sideline official what happened. That's when Zidane got a red card

What a game and what bad luck for the French - with some of their best PK shooters on the bench, Zidane gets himself a red card and gets ejected - very nice. If Italy couldn't have won in shootout then, then I don't think they'd be winning in a long time! There's actually a site with some t-shirt designs being offered about the ordeal and a forum about why he did it -Link Removed. I just know that my friends and I were in shock when we saw it though this isn't the first time Zidane has committed such a foul!

on Zidane...i had heard from the commentators that he has done this in the past....to bad he got into words with an opponent....shouldn't have..... I have to agree if it hadn't been reshown on the big screen over and over the ref didn't see it, may not have done anything because it wasn't part of the play in action of the ball it probably would have gone uncalled if not for the reshowing and then the ref stops finally and goes over and talks to the sideline ref and he tells him what he saw then the red card comes out. So there is no rule that 2 refs have to see something to get red carded?

I'm not sure of all the rules of the sport so that's why I ask.....also it seems to me that the managers coaches etc would tell the players esp those that are going to be carefully watched (like Zidane) and those that have hot heads to NOT TO LISTEN TO OFFENSIVE tactics from opponents...it's more of a "head game" than just playing ball...getting pysched out by the opponent....I just can't believe Zidane fell for it. There is no smoke without fire! I've only ever seen such a delayed extreme reaction as Zizou's from victims of racism or slur's against their family. I work with and most of my friends are Italians and one fault that seems to tar all of them is an inherant racism. If Materazzi's abuse WAS racist (ZZ is North African), will FIFA be big enough to take away his medal and register a red card aginst him in the records? Hmmm; I am asking for integrity from the world body; Silly me!

Knowing Zizou, he doesnt blow up that easily but once he snaps.. he snaps big. i read in other forums that Materrazi called him 'monkey' and 'son of an algerian nigger'. any of u guys can confirm this. its a very big deal to me/others to know why. it is very sad to say my hero ended his career this way. he deserves a lot, lot better. i do not mind france losing out like they did but it hurts what bad things ppl are saying about zizou without the whole story.

for the video.. one argument is that.. no officials saw the foul. but the 4th official saw it on video... so when did video evidence became a decider. FIFA said only call on what u see .. video evidence is still in discussion. so why??? ironicly italy is notorius for corruption. I don't know how you managed to do so, with playing only one good game (out of seven) in the whole World Cup. Defense wins Championships. Again it is the truth. Sad but true. The ugly football dominating is not what we all hoped for.
Nevertheless, i was happy with Cannavaro and Buffon. They deserved it!
And the french didn't desrve it, because they were too afraid to win. Italy stopped playing at the beginning of the second half, but Thierry Henry can't score when he is alone against 4 or 5 defenders all of the time.
