this kind of thing

This kind of things are always said during football matches, not only by Materazzi but by everyone, but usually players don't headbutt each other Laughing

teaching comes from parents and not from players, hope children will make the difference.

but finally you admit that insults are good examples for young people...corruption too, if you know what i mean

No question that Zidane deserved player of this wc. With regards to the headbutt incident, we all agree that it was not called for, but Fifa and the Italian football association needs to address what was said (Which was probably racial). This is the problem with Italian football and european football for that matter, the racial attacks on the pitch. When italian footballers are given Nazi salutes to faciasts in the crowd (i.e De Canio), Italian officials need to act. Another example of Europian footballs problem is in Spain with the spanish coach and what he said about Henry. Instead of punishing him for his racial attacks, the spanish football group awarded him with an extension in his contract. As long as this face of football is around, it is hard to call the game, " The beautiful Game".

100% agree!

Do you really think that the young generation needs zinedine to learn and make bad things ?

never say or do something that you regret then? Are you all angels...if yes...the pope won't have enough time to sanctify each one of you.

No, but they look up to him. He is an idol probably for millions of young footballers. And if you are, you have responsibility, if you like it or not. And when the kids see, hey, someone called me names, let's headbutt him, that's what the Superstarts do, even in a WC Final, it is not really ... ok. Wink

And at least it makes it hard work for parents to explain. And the comparism to corruption according to kids makes no sense, sorry.

Canavarro did well. I would like to see a Team with Canavarro and Ricardo Carvalho.

Well.. the prize was voted the day before the final so they didnt knew that Zidane was head butting Materazzi.

the bad example was not Zidane's attitude, but the fact they give him the prize after promoting friendship and fair play.
And not, sure, i am not a good example for anyone; Twisted Evil
neither i want to, nor I have the privilege to show my actions to billions of people on TV.

It is FIFA who invites the journalists and it is FIFA who decides what items should be valued, and the fairplay issue is a requirement of FIFA. So it doesn´t matter if Zidane was chosen by journalists or not. They should choose just after the last game and if they chosed him before they should reconsider. So FIFA has more responsability in this because should make pressure over the journalists option once it was against the FIFA values of fairplay. I guess you´re the ones that don´t know much about this matter.

Yeah!!!!!

Zidane is the best player in this WC!

But...

Cannavaro also was enough effective, good and felt the game.
But Italians have stable team. And Cannavaro wasn't too impressive among other Italian players. Cause Buffon, Gattuso, Pirlo weren't worse than Cannavaro.
And Zidane was a true centre of French team.
It is hard to compare defender with playmaker. Cannavaro didn't assist and didn't score. But did a lot of job to destroy all the extreme situations in the box.
FIFA should give 2 Golden ball awards: to the best defender and the best midfielder.

That's the only solution that can really help to discuss this topic.

Blame it on FIFA.

Cannavaro is the best defender and team player
Zidane is the best playmakers, assistant and team heart.

Are you satisfied with my answer? Smile

Zidane deserved the best player award period. Even if you look at the game against Italy, Zidane was controling the midfield most of the night, and Italy was struggling to even get the ball out of their zone. I dont think the Headbutt would be enough to take the title away from him. He is a world class player playing in his last WC and he deserved it. It is unforunate that he had to leave the way he did.

Another good reason why he deserved it is because of the way he was able to single handedly bring France from the brink of elimination to the finals and beating teams like Spain brazil and portugal, who were all favs to win the whole thing.

Zidane DID NOT DESERVE to win it because he lacked fair play. In my opinion, there were better players, too, but the fact that he lacked fair play so blatantly should've had him taken out of the top 10 for the award.

Imagine if it was the other way round - Materazzi best player - you'd be shouting and screaming and punching the ground with your fists to have it taken away from him for his "assumed" remark.

THAT is FIFA's fault - THAT is what they got wrong.

It's like saying "It's okay to be unfair" - you can be the best all the same. NO YOU CAN'T. Being the best is a combination of various factor. And Fair Play is one of them.

Unfortunately the media are good at hyping things up - like they did with Zidane after the Brazil match - but did he really "shine" enough to get the award. Did he play his role better than Cannavaro played his? No, he didn't. Did he play better then Pirlo did in his role - yes, he did. He got two yellow cards, and one red.

FIFA should've removed him for misconduct from the list, even if the journalists had already voted.

Zidane wins golden ball
