Don't pretend that you followed Zidane 's career, I guess that you picked up the information somewhere in the forum. All that you know about it is all the red cards he collected. You probably don't care at all about the rest.
That "Guyana guy" is a French citizen who has been fouled twice in the italian box, for only one PK awarded. I show you what a dirty player is : http://youtube.com/watch?v=WJPKM5aJGW8&search=Materazzi Amazing how he escaped red cards (added on youtube on 19 march 2006.) But I guess you are not interested. Does not suit your agenda. You don't have to behave like this in defense, look at canavarro, maldini these are correct and respectful players, Materazzi is a thug, my definition of a dirty player, who should not be selected in a national team. Who should be baned for ever from any international competition. true , Zidane is an impulsive player who blew the fuses many times but also because of this reputation, he has always been on the receiving end of provocation and dirty play, not the other way round. I do not contest Italy's victory they deserved it, as much as the french team. When you go to penalty shoot out it is 50-50. |

Materazzi is a "thug", you say.
Well, I agree that he is a very physical player. I also believe that the video (youtube) doesn't really prove much - I've seen thousands of actions like that, nothing special - I can't see any "violence" there, nor any red card offences. But M. DESERVED to be called up. His past couple of seasons have been excellent. Yes, he gets plenty of yellow cards (but no more than the norm for a defender), but since 1990 he's only been sent off 3 times in serie a/b, and he DID play most of the matches. Cannavaro has been sent off more than he has. Yes, he IS very physical (but so is Cannavaro, Nesta or Zambrotta), but that doesn't make him a cheat or a thug. He just doesn't give up easily. I watch as many serie a games as I can (it costs me 55euro a month), and I would've called him as Nesta's natural subsitute too. And he DID play a very good world cup. He scored two magnificent goals, he was wrongly sent off (but DID commit the foul, there) and played overall in a solid and CORRECT manner. Maybe he said a couple of excessively provoking words, maybe... But, dear belis, I see you're pointing your finger more at him rather than Zidane, aren't you? |

I told already that Zidane 's red card was fully deserved.
He had a moment of madness. Zidane paid it more that you can possibly imagine. With the red card, he abandonned his team mates, lost his reputation, the world cup, and had the worst end of carreer one can imagine. This is a completely different thing as your Totti regarding at least the consequences. I would like this story to be a good example that violence is useless but I would also like to see the man who made it all happened to be punished somehow, otherwise the lesson would not be complete. |

That doesn't explain the "thug" theory, does it? Yes, if something so bad was said by( atomic mouth!) Materazzi then he should be punished in some way. But I repeat, we should at that point put microphones on ALL players and scan the WHOLE world cup for any remarks, be they racist or "ordinary" insults. |

I was reacting mostly on the fact that Zidane was reduced to a mere "dirty player". I am sorry but Materazzi is closer to my own definition of what I think is a dirty player. True Zidane is a very impulsive player, I just can't bear that another player/team, knowing this, tried to taunt and insult him for the last match of a wonderful career , hoping him to be sent off. I can accept defeat and I repeat it again and again, Italy deserved to win the world cup, this is not the question. What happened to zidane is simply to hard to swallow. |

I'm not sure any player's aim is to get the opponent sent off, especially in this case. It's all done just to wind the opponent up.[/img]

Poor baby, let me cuddle you... France lost the World Cup, France didn't lose the final. The same in 1994, Italy lost the WC to Brazil but didn't lose the final game in LA (0-0 a.e.) I think you Italians are mistaken by the way you display scores. I read on several Italian newspapers' websites that Italy beat France 6-4!!! What the hell is that??? The score is 1-1 after extratime, 5-3 penalty shoot-out. It doesn't change anything to the fact that Italy are the undisputed World Champions but they didn't win the final. France lost the WC without losing a single game. It's as simple as that. |

Camon AlucarD, I don't think belis is a bad looser, he is saying what I also think... Zidane is a giant player, surely one of the best in the world in this period, that did a VERY BAD thing because football players should not behave like that, and of course deserved the red card (and didn't deserved to win the best player title, even if he is). Also Materazzi, in my opinion, is a very good player; I think on Sunday he was one of the best Italy players. But we can't say that he is polite and not rude, he is a real asshole, but this doesn't make him a bad player, 'cause even Zidane is an asshole and he uses to headbutt other players.
I can't stand people that say that Zidane is an angel just forced by the asshole Materazzi to do what he did, that's it for me. Ps. sorry for my english |

Don't be sorry for your English which seems very good (at least to a poor Frenchman like me). I agree with you and my fellow countryman Belis and Zidane's gesture can be understood but not forgiven. He deserved to be sent off last Sunday. In my opinion, Materazzi is not such a good player. His technical skills are not as strong as other Italian defenders' are but he scored a great header to even the score after France was given a not so obvious penalty (the second time Malouda was fouled in the Italian box, the penalty, this time, was obvious, but the referee surprisingly didn't see it). |

On the first PK, Materazzi rushing/jumping KNEE FIRST to intimidate Malouda is a fault. That he touches him or not it is DANGEROUS play. That's rules of football. Watch 54 minute and you will see that Materazzi (again) puts Malouda down by behind without even touching the ball ... indisputable PK. And as Henry said "It is no point wondering about the arbitrage since Switzerland's match ...3 |

Zico, Raul,
you are a bit confused. What we are talking about? The WorldCup or the football history since 1800? Materazzi in a lot of other circumstances was violent. But we are talking about the WC Final. And in this case he is not guilty! STOP! In the WC he wasn't violent. He got a red card in match with Australia but it was a big mistake of referee (Then the referee made another big mistake at the last minute with the penalty) If you want to judge Zidane and Materazzi for the past, well, remeber the 14 red cards of Zidane's carreer! Do you want to know the facts? Zidane said: " Do you want my t-shirt? I can give you after the match, if you want!" maybe with arrogance. Materazzi replied: "I prefer t-shirt of your sister... I made sex with her" (Many people in Italian football report that when Zidane played in Juve, his sister was in Italy too and she made sex with more than one Italian footballer... Bah, who knows?) Is it a so violent insult ? Did he told something defamatory for Zidane ? What Materazzi told is not nice! It's stupid! Zidane's action is not only stupid for him and for France! It's violence! The difference between a headbutting and a stupid sentence is much more than only one game disqualification! STOP! P.S. Zico, Italy is not spectacular like Brasil (Brasil was not so spectacular in WC 2006) or France, but we get our results in a clean way, and a lot of Brasilian players came to play in Italy. When we Italians loose, we accept the facts, and we try to understand our error; even in WC Korea 2002, when the referee helped Korea. The Spanish know this very well too. You, learn to loose!!! It's the first rule of sport! |

Totti and De Rossi to that club of "Players Of Dirt"??so i see that you know very well the Italian championship and that you are not confused!!totti has been insulted and kicked by poulsen all the match, he has no touched his opponent and it has been the only fact of the kind in his career .so zidane catches to headers the opponents and has himself expelled many times in career and he is a great player, totti is a "player of dirt" for one spit in his career!

and you forgot to add no one asked what was said to Totti when he spit on the poulsen player. The only that got punished was Totti and there was not a FIFA hearing like the Zidane incident so talking about fairness, what happen to that in Totti case... Guys, we could go on and on this subject but Im happy about this, the only 2 finals with PK in world cup history, Italians were involved and were pretty exciting game matches. As brasil, Italy give a good share in football/soccer history. Hats off on Brazil, but also Hats off on the italian team with their 2006 World cup championship |
