What a MAN Zidane is...
He knows he's done something very wrong, he inderlines the wrongness of his actions in front of millions of tv spectators.... but he thinks he's so important that he can say he doesn't regret doing it! HE IS A HYPOCRIT. If you don't regret doing it it's partially justifying the action. He's just told all those young people he carefully apologised to "If you feel insulted, you can beat the crap out of whoever you like" - then just say sorry, ad say you'd do it again. He's NOT sorry. His interview, which I've just finished watching and reading translations of for the second time, is proof that he JUST CRACKED, under a common insult. The women of his family aren't necessarily his sister and mother - he probably has aunts, grandmothers etc. If you call a man a "Son of a bitch" it doesn't mean he intends to insult the guy's mother - it's trying to insult/irritate YOU. It's trying to say that YOU are illeggitimate, unclean. And Zico, you unclever person - you're investigative capabilities are the same as ... CUT ... I'll be diplomatic here. Zidane and Materazzi said THE SAME THING. Materazzi, when asked, just said " I insulted him in a common way, it wasn't aimed at his mother". It was JUST the TRUTH. What? "If Zidane is going to make this public I'll look bad" DO you have any idea how many times I've called people "Son of a Bitch" ? Are you saying I look bad? Are you saying it's not normal. I've even said it to my brother - and we have the same mother!!! You think Materazzi would be embarassed by the public thinking he called him Son of a Bitch, or insulted his sister in some way (In Italian, there's a term "Vaffanculo a te e tua sorella", which means Fvck you and your sister, which is just about as common as pubs are in England!)? Embarassed my back side!! Zidane cracked. You should go to a psychologist with him. |

I think there is a real cultural problem here !
I have ever never said to my brother "son of bitch" otherwise I would have been punched in the nose ! It seems that insults are not as important in Italy as in France. In France we use to say that "words can kill sometimes" It does not seem to be the same in Italy? You cannot accept that words could have hurted zidane to that point just because rude words and insults are so frequent in italy? I begin to understand Materazzi 's surprise. However the insult, i still think Z. should have headbutted him in the changing room... |

In Italy saying "Figlio di p..." is also used to call someone sly. It has many synonyms and ZZ cannot have reacted to such a simple phrase, because he speaks Italian. Either something worse was said, or ZZ just cracked because he couldn't take the pressure, was frustrated because he couldn't play like he wanted - I don't think he played all that well in the final. It's not a cultural problem. If your brother punched you in the nose you'd have a cultural problem. In the heat of the moment a lot of things can be said - but NOTHING should ever be done. My brother and I have never fought physically, but we've argued many times, shouting at each other, but we've never come to hands - COMMON SENSE. It's just plain lack of understanding and patience. I think it's time to forgive Zidane. But at that point it's time to forgive Materazzi, too - because if he did something, it was a lot less than what Zidane did. |

Your arguing is pointless
don't try to be smarter than you are THE FACT IS : WHEN WILL FIFA PUNISH PROVOCATIONS ON THE FIELD ? CAUSE THOSE [beep!] ASSHOLE BAD MANNER PLAYERS WHO SPEND ALL THEIR "DEAD TIME" INSULTING OTHER PLAYERS DURING THE GAME ARE [beep!] ANNOYING IMO THEY RUIN FOOTBALL NICE DONE ZIDANE, NEXT TIME KILL THIS [beep!] PLZ BTW METERAZZI IS WELL KNOWN FOR BEING AN ARROGANT, VIOLENT, AND PROVOCATIVE PLAYER. I BET HE WAS INSULTING ZIDANE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE MATCH SO AS TO DESTABILIZE HIM UNTIL HE FOUND THE "RIGHT WORD" : INSULTING HIS FAMILY WHEN WE KNOW THAT ZIDANE'MOTHER IS BETWEEN DEATH AND LIFE SINCE THREE WEEKS |

In french "fils de p..." is a grave offense, it does n't mean anything else than "your mother is a whore and you are a b.a.s.t.a.r.d" When I said a cultural problem I don't judge anybody , I just say there are differences in culture, that's all To speak a language is one thing, to fully understand a different culture is another thing. In that context, I think that M. could have thought saying something very common according to him but for Zidane for some reasons, it was a grave offense . and yes he cracked . So as you say let's forgive zidane AND Materazzi |

So, headbutting your opponent doesn't "ruin football". You're judging Materazzi for his past. Okay, let's dig into ZZ's past too - sent off 14 times (more than Materazzi) in his career. Keintz probably remembers his headbutt too (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnZzEyXbs3E). He was a very good player, but had his (very) dark side, which he fully showed on Sunday. If Materazzi breached FIFA's laws on conduct, then he should be punished. But I don't think taking the p1ss out of an opponent or his mother infringes those rules. Face it...ZZ cracked when he should have kept cool. What ruins football? Oh, and by the way - most people I know think I'm the smartest person they know - I don't think I can get much smarter than that -and yes, I'm not being modest. But for sure I'm smarter than you. Don't you dare write another word about my intelligence. |

If you treat the causes, you delete the consequences.
The difference between Materazzi and Zidane : Materazzi can be considered as a "dirty" player : making fouls and agressions during action. Zidane (arguably best player / french with algerian origins) was often the target of "hard" defenses or "bold" words. He generally overreacted to those things. His play was, most of time, clean though.
It is too easy to say "corruption". |

If you treat the causes, you delete the consequences. FROGG, i 'll repeat my question to everybody of you Zidane fans: WHERE ON EARTH WERE YOU WHEN TOTTI SPIT ON POULSEN IN EURO 2004? DID YOU EVER THINK TO DEFEND TOTTI FOR WHAT POULSEN TOLD HIM? NO. WHY? BECAUSE TOTTI IS ITALIAN AND WE ALL KNOW THAT IN THE RULES OF FOOTBALL IS ALLOWED TO HIT AN ITALIAN PLAYER WITH THE HEAD AND CONDAMNED HIM EVEN IF HE IS PROVOKED.... Now, please, if you want, answer the question or otherwise, remain silent, for the sake of God and for the sake of italian's cerebral cells. Provocations in football is as normal as the air you breath. Please don't come to say that in a french football match nobody says to another player: "son of a..." or "assh**". The problem is French lost for bad luck and for Zidane's foulish act. Have you ever heard about FREE WILL? Did anyone FORCED Zinedine Zizzagn...Zidane to hit Materazzi? I don't think so. Maybe he can hear the voices in his head... Full stop. |

Mimbdert and bigbroantonio, let's stop answering these Nobel trophy's minds, because it is totally useless. All they can do is continuing to say that Italians are racist, provocatoire, fakers, cheaters, divers and so on... They never read what you write, just go on telling the same things, as you see. Since I believe that they don't have half the intelligence you have to explain their point of view or argumenting their ideas, they don't even deserve an answer from you. |

You're right Elfo we're all so low and have no merit to our opinion. We deserve nothing from someone with so much more intelligence like yourself. Not everyone here are fasns of the French team, but I think a lot of people find what happened very upsetting for so many reasons. If you don't like people discussing it just don't read it and go talk about how great the game was and talk about what bad losers thousands and thousands of people are and how greta you are. |

I didn't follow Euro2004 (just heard the result after each match). However, it doesn't invalidate what I said. Less (hard) provocations => less fouls of this kind. Applyable to all players. |
