I just have to say that the 2006 World Cup just left alot to be desired in displaying the skills of the top players that we may never see play again on the world stage.

I'm a purist but the game needs major improvements, a modernization of sorts.

Remove 2 players off of both teams on the pitch to open up the game and allow talented players to show skills. The field is just too congested.

Alow more substitutions. For crying out loud the players are tired, let them sub. How many? Lots of them, use all the players.

Make the net 2 feet wider maybe 1 foot taller so the trick shots around the wall are going in. Shots on goal will be more often with less hesitation. More gaols or the possibility of goals is better than going to penalty kicks. Yes skill and nerve is required but the penalty kick system has to be looked at. I'll come up with something give me a few beers.

Allow the instant replay. Another ref can look at the plays. there is just too much at stake, National pride, players hard work and dreams to loose a game to some players theatrics. It was appauling to see some of the antics and even worse, games decided by them.

The red card!!! Change it to a time rule maybe 5 minutes. If you get a second then you are out but another player can sub so the team doesn't play the rest of the game with a man down.

The refs have too much power and not enough accountability!!!!!

Anyhow I'll get off my soap box.

Sorry for a long first post Smile

Interesting!

I'll go with a few.. Smile

Remove two players? Nah, sometimes it looks too sparse IMHO. Keep it as is.

More substitutions? Yeah, why not. Say five - gives managers a bit more to juggle with then, gives players more chances, might make for a few bolder tactical changes, and more interesting to watch. Possibly.

Widen the goal? Nooooo... the whole GK job would have to be re-trained and it wouldn't be such a job of skill for GK's as it'd be way way too hard to play at. Standards of GKing would go down as fewer players opted for an impossible position.

Replays - deffo! Gotta happen sooner or later. But, not for every last little incident or it'd be stop/start all match. Just for potentially match-changing situations - Penalties, Red cards, and poss yellow cards too. Show the replay on the giant screen so not only ref but crowd see it. Benefits - if a player is seen gracefully diving without being touched, they can be laughed at by the fans - ridicule will teach 'em a better lesson than hatred.

Red card - leave as it. It's every players responsibility to their team not to 'red mist' and leave their mates with only ten men. No second chances.

That's my thoughts for the mix Very Happy

I cant belive your actually saying these words. I'll agree abit with the replay thing but

Nets 2 feet wider?
Nets 1 foot taller?
9 players a team?
5 minutes on the bench instead of getting sent off?
All subs should be aloud? maybe extended it to 5 wouldnt sound to crazy

More subs does sound good, and especially say adding 3 new subsitutions at the start of Extra Time. Other than that, better officiating will correct some problems for sure.

Yeah. That would do it for me. Better officiating is good enough for me.

No to the nets, subs, 9 players, etc.

Some of your ideas are quite interesting.

All last season, a couple of things made me very angry: timewasting and offside. I don't think I saw too much timewasting during the world cup, but in european cups and italian league it was all over the place (timewasting). I suggest timing the match, say at 30mins effective play. Stop the clock when the ball is out. Cristiano Ronaldo can pretend to be hurt for two weeks for all we care - the clock has been stopped - and matches on average really only last about 55-60mins anyway.

The offside rule seems too "old", and I think it needs looking at. The Welsh FA (which is one of four countries which has right to vote on football rules) was about to propose limiting offside to the penalty area - so one suggestion could be to reduce the offside area. What else can be done?

I like the idea of more subs going on the pitch. But I'd say that when a player goes off the field, he should be allowed back on too. Imagine the results - a player is tired, he needs some rest - the manager takes him out a few mins and then "redoes" the substitution (for the same player). The manager could explain, in the meantime, some new tactics to the player, put him in a different position, etc. With three subs (like it is now) "real" tactics are limited - you're just left with team spirit and luck.

I don't agree with widening the net. I ABSOLUTELY agree with instant replays with a team of officials making decisions (don't stop play in attack situations - like offside - and let the officials decide).

rclens, I see you still haven't seen a psychologict. Are you saying that other nations should be allowed to insult, but Italians shouldn't?

Sorry but alot of the rules your bringing up refer to American games..

You'll be asking for time outs next. When the players are tired they put more heart into the game I think.

I am not a fan of video replays I dont want to see gameplay held up plus I like to see the ref f**k up now and again.

If someone makes a dangerous tackle or has committed a second offense in my book they deserve to go of the pitch. The whole team should be punished for his stupid actions.

There is one rule they should have though.

The ref should produce the yellow card more frequently when players surround him. Maybe even have a rule where only the players involved or the captains are allowed to approach the ref.

This guy is nuts. Can you believe it! 9 players? Widen the goal posts? He's crazy. I bet he has never played football in his life. Why do Amercians always have to change everything?

In my opinion WC's have been showing low quality football because they are played in the final of the season when the top players are completely exhausted. Since they started the Champions League model players have to play too many games at the higher level. It's only natural that when the WC comes, in the hot summer and with many games already played, the better ones can't really run , they are out of shape and the WC games are bound to be slow and boring.

Finish the CL model, bring back the old european chapions cup( and the other european cups),put a limit to the foreigners in each team so that clubs like Arsenal are forced to use some national players and the rich clubs can't buy all the good athletes, make them play less games, players are not machines. Take back the sport don't let it be turned in just another business like it is becoming.

With this we don't need many changes in the rules.

This is a great idea. Adding effective tactics would really add a refreshing twist to the game.

Indeed not every incedent but contreversial plays or or events that can effectively change the outcome of the game for example a caterwhaling pathetic dive in the penalty box.

Yeekiat, Youre right . I love football, but the integrity of (some) not all of the players left alot to be deisred. The motto on the pitch seemed- If we cant win or score we'll just dive and act to victory. So maybe purist was a bad choice. Thanks

Hence, the ability to make substitutions. Tired players=Injuries and boring matches.

Sorry but but this statement implies you have ran out of something worth typing. Great scapegoat. Next!! Rolling Eyes I'll put a light bulb here for this one Idea

LEAVE OUR SPORT ALONE! Laughing

As for Gedman and Steven 2005,200and 54 or whatever. Youre right! No change is needed. But if the rules stay the same we will have to at a minimum change the awards given to the players. Instead of Golden shoe. How'bout.... Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and for the real writhering time wasters how does best supporting actress sound.

The other thing... get some fresh people to run FiFA!!!

CHANGE IS NEEDED

Sorry Ralfy I just can't agree with these changes and would not like them in the game.

For me, what is the purpose of more substitutions if you want to reduce the players on the pitch to nine a team? These two rules counter each another and would be best if you would just leave it at 11 players on the pitch.

The only problem in football at the moment is a lack of world class officials.

We need more Perluigi Collinas. Referees are humans and sure, they make mistakes. But some of the mistakes being made are extremely TRIVIAL mistakes and could easily be avoided if a world class official was in charge. As long as we have that, there would be far less controversy in my opinion.

And I'm also for the idea of dishing out cards when players surround referees as well.

no need for most of the changes it would ruin the game
i agree we need better officials
more yellow cards for diving and surrounding the ref is a good idea
but i cant see how any of the other changes would help the game
the one about widening the goal posts really made me laugh though
so cheers for that Laughing
