Atletico Madrid are to hold a press conference on Tuesday concerning the future of striker Fernando Torres.

Speculation around the 22-year-old has been rife for some time, but intensified still further following the forward's impressive displays for Spain at the World Cup.

With Ruud van Nistelrooy's departure from Manchester United still seemingly imminent, Torres has persistently been touted as a replacement at Old Trafford.

Atletico have constantly refuted the rumours and Sir Alex Ferguson's comments that he is concentrating on bolstering the midfield seem to bear out those denials.

Ironically, the situation bears a close resemblance to that of Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo, whom The Red Devils have continually insisted is staying.

A team with both the talented prospect and precocious trickster in would certainly prove a fearful force, but United fans will have to wait to see if they get their hands on Torres.

Interesting, although I'm guessing it will be like the Henry one after the Champions League final this year, just to spell it out that he is staying with Atletico.

This is an easy matter. Torres wanna play in a big club, a club which plays regularly in Europe. He is fed up of being told every year that Atletico will have a competitive team and then they're unable to finish on the top 6 in La Liga.
On the other hand, I think Atletico, despite the things they say, want to sell him before clubs realise that Torres isn't as good as people thinks, and they'll try to get as much as money as they can for him. This has already happened before with other Spanish players. Remember Joaquín (Betis) and his president saying that they were "not to sell him to the "mad russian", not even for 40 million euros". Well, I doubt he worths more than 15 million euros nowadays.

But the question is that nobody wants to show his cards, cos they're afraid about fans reaction. I guess neither of them love the idea of being hanged from the highest part of Vicente Calderón*.

*Just a joke. Greetings to Atletico fans Embarassed Very Happy

Torres will stay.
I think that's the best decision, and Atletico supporters want him to stay!

That's not enough. He is a world class striker and would love to see him play lotsa games in CL.
I badly want to see him at Liverpool. Eventho Liverpool is a rival club, I just want to see them with a world class striker.
