Since 2004 the two champions are defensive teams.

Italy and Greece looked unbeatabble because all their players are in the defensive zone. How can the best teams win in front of a team which not play ?

Do you think it is the end of offensive teams like brazil and we can't win like that anymore ? Crying or Very sad

italy have scored 122 goals and conceded 2. the only game in which they really sat back was against france(due to tiredness...having played the game of the tournament aginst germany).

italy have scored with many different players.

what defensive football are you talking about?

are you blind???

This time Italy did not play "catenaccio" and having one of the best defenses of the cup is not a bad thing at all.
France also had a fantastic defence this does not mean they did not attack.

In addition, having just a good defence (the so called "catenaccio") does not make you win the WC, Italy won as soon as the "catenaccio" was abandoned.

On the other hand, having teams with very good defenses will make other's team improving their attack (and the other way around), it's always been like that and football has always improved (to me, at least, I know somebody may not share this point of view).

Only those team which will be able to keep up with the improvings will stay in the WC (as usual).

I think Italy's attack is much more better than Greece.

They could get two goals against Germany, but how about Greece? Always 1-0!

the only similarities with greece are that no one expected italy to win.greece won deservedly but you can;t reallt compare both styles of playing and individual quality of the players...italy is obviously better

Agreed. Italy national side best in Europe. But, unfortunately, a dark cloud hangs over their domestic league. You can't possibly cheat in World Cup match. So, I'm glad for Italy in winning world cup, as on balance over decades, they are best in Europe (or Germany?). Italy needed to show World Football - despite domestic football strife - they deserved to win - they certainly showed that by beating 'best' team in tournament and in the way that they did it. Fast paced, strong attacking Italian football. Was a delight to watch. That match 'rescued' the tournament. (Lasting memory thankfully would not be Zinedine Zidane's act in final.)

Football is unjust sometimes, it's not always the best teams who win the cup. France would have won the world cup like Portugal would have won the euro in 2004.
