The state Government of Victoria is building a new $190 million stadium for Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Storm (Rugy League) that is due to be completed in 2008.

aaah so you are a memebr of the infamous squadron

"ooooooooooh when the jets go flying in, oh when the jets go flying in......."

i too am a great jets supporter but im now stuck living in sydney.

ive been to each of new south wales' stadiums and they are all brilliant in their own way. the SFS (aussie stadium) is a bloody awesom stadium, huge an beautiful. cental coast (bluetongue stadium) is creates a great atmosphere and is right on the picturesque 'brisbane waters'. but the EAS in Newcastle is the best....... why? coz the jets play there.

GO THE JETS

we palyed some beautiful football and yes, i was there. it's a pity that playing nice football doesnt mean we get to play in the final tho.
nick is obviously a great coach. my only concern is the complete lack of central defenders!

the jets play at cambletown this weekend but i wont be able to make it. i reckon we are due for a win.

We still have Steven Old mate. He hasnt played yet as he is away on tour with the All Whites. From all accounts he is a very very good CB.

Melbourne Victory have now moved 6 of their remaining 8 home matches to Melbourne's Telstra Dome as Olympic Park can no longer accommodate all of the fans wanting to attend matches. Telstra Dome seats 56,000 fans and is the home ground of AFL clubs St Kilda Saints, Western Bulldogs and the Essedon Bombers. The stadium will be used for the bulk of the Victorys home games until their new stadium in the Olympic Park precinct is finished in 2009. The ground level seating can be moved forward closer to the boundry which creates a more intimate atmosphere for players and fans. This has only been used once and may not be used again as it leaves large gaping holes in the already sub standard pitch.

Melbourne transferred their match against Sydney FC to the Telstra Dome which drew an Australian domestic competition record of over 40,000 fans.

Well there are two big clubs in Australia who were originally formed from within the Croatian communities of Melbourne and Sydney. The Melbourne Knights (originally SC Croatia) and Sydney United (originally Sydney Croatia). They are both playing in their respective state leagues, but were formerly in the old NSL.

Both have produced a lot of international players. For Melbourne they produced amongst others: Mark Viduka, Danny Tiatto and this'll interest you particularly, Josip Simunic and Joey Didulica. Sydney was the starting point for players like Tony Popovic, Ante Milicic, Ned Zelic, Mile Sterjovski, Zeljko Kalac, David Zdrilic, Joel Griffiths, Jason Culina, Mark Bosnich and Tim Cahill. Australia's current coach, Graham Arnold, also came through there.

Both have impressive histories within the game here.

and viduka also interests me cause he moved to dinamo from there. Wink

it was great to see a team at WC with so many players who come from this area.. at least for me.

Yeah for sure that's understandable. While there's increasingly a push away from clubs having overt links with specific ethnic communities (one of the main reasons for the model adopted for the A-League) due to the fact that occasional tensions have marred the code's reputation and progress, there's still definitely an acknowledgement that these same clubs and the comunities from which they've been formed kept the game afloat in this country for years.

i heard about those tensions. they are understandable as they would be in any country in the world, but it's nice that those clubs are recognized for what they've done to the game.

Well there's probably a divide in some ways. Between those who look at the positives and the negatives. The negative view has held football back majorly here, primarily because the media interests are so tied in with the other football codes here, that the smallest things get blown up out of proportion, plus because it's not something we see a lot of generally in Australia anyway. But those who know football recognise that while we had to move away from it to increase the game's wider popular appeal, these clubs have been hugely important. The Italian and Croatian community clubs especially, but all of them really.

well, i guess i don't have enough knowledge to comment on that so i'm leaving it to you. thanks for clearing things up for me but, as you know, our countries are miles away from each other and therefore we don't get a true insight in the things over there. Only because of the world cup were we able to read some newspapers columns regarding these issues.
