Colombian international striker Elson Becerra has been shot dead whilst on a night out in a nightclub in Cartagena.
The 27-year-old who played his club football in the United Arab Emirates for Al-Jazeera was shot four times while he was dancing with a friend and died shortly after in the health centre he was rushed to.
Rumours of incident are mixed with some reports saying that the killers were part of a group the footballer has an argument a few nights earlier, with others mentioning the involvement of contracted assassins.
Becerra is now the 12th Colombian footballer to be shot dead in the last 20 years, as well as a referee.
Col. Mauricio Agudelo, police chief of Bolivar state spoke to the media about the incident: "The attackers were looking for a chance in the discotheque and in the middle of the music they committed the double crime."
